Questions about applying to Barnard?

I’m submitting SAT, not ACT scores, so I’m required to take 2 SAT subject tests. I’ve looked and looked, but I can’t find any specifications so can I just take anything or do they want specific ones? Also, for my teacher recommendations, the AP teacher I asked already was doing too many and wouldn’t do it, so would it be okay if both recs were from regular class teachers? I’ve had both for 2 years and I think both like me, but I’m worried not having a rec from an AP teacher will hurt my chances :/

I don’t know much about Barnard College’s policies–check their website, and if they don’t specify anything, then yes, go take whatever SAT IIs you feel you’ll do the strongest on. I recommend picking those that’ll suit your major the most unless you’re undeclared. The only rules are that you shouldn’t take Math I (it’s considered too easy of a test for upper-tier colleges but ironically has a harsher curve than Math II)…and don’t pick a test of your native/household language (if any) if you’re taking a language SAT II.

Colleges know that some teachers will be more popular than others, and that recommendations are likely to vary by teacher and are entirely subjective overall, so don’t worry too much about recs. Also, in my opinion, the most important factor in picking a teacher for recommendations isn’t class difficulty level but how well you think the teacher knows you.

(Note on my background: I’m a HS senior as well, and the above info is opinion.)

thanks so much! are you thinking about applying to barnard too? I want to talk to some other prospectives b/c it helps show what kind of girls go to barnard and I’m really nervous about that! (but everything about it seems awesome, so I really hope I like it!) have you visited? thanks for your answer :)

I recommend taking a language SAT II. They’re generally easier to score well on than AP tests, and they help in placement when you need to fulfill your language requirement here.

thanks! i think i’ll take spanish, but i’m not sure if it will look bad to take english (i’ve heard it does since its my language…) and math 1 (i know i’d do better since I’m pretty good at math but i heard it looks bad to schools if you take it since its the easiest.) thanks so so much :)

I have a question if you take the SAT with SAt IIs and the ACT and like your ACT score better can you only submit the ACT?

According to Barnard’s website, if you are submitting the ACT no Subject Tests are required.

You can submit just the ACT as long as you take it with writing.
