Questions about art supplement and additional recommendation

I was just wondering how much impact the art supplement and the additional recommendation could be in terms of admissions to Duke.

For the art supplement, I’m planning to send prints of web layouts that I have designed for school clubs, competitions, etc. I’m gonna talk about web design for my essay, so is this too redundant?

As for the additional recommendation, if I ask my supervisor from Duke Medical Center (where I volunteered at for 2 summers) to write a letter, would that help my application at all? On the website, they said these things don’t really affect your chance but you never know.

Thanks!!

im a HS senior so this is just my opinion.

1) First, make sure that web design is acceptable as an artistic supplement. (View the Duke artistic supplement to make sure it falls under an accepted area of art) Once you are sure that it is accepted, I think it would be positive as long as the web pages are of course high quality. They will be fowarded to the appropriate department and reviewed seperately. A report will then be given to the adcom with an assessment of your work. It would not be redundant and would only serve to reinforce your passion. So, yes if they are good, send them in.

2) It probably wont be a primary factor in getting you in but it certainly couldnt hurt and may be a quality addition to your application. Make sure that this person really knows you personally and can write a good rec, as the simple fact that he is from Duke Medical Center will probably make no difference.

Hope that helped and again, just my opinion.

Thanks!! Any other opinions?
