Questions about Assist.org classes

GPA: 3.4-3.5 (by the end of fall 2010)
Major: Economics

Hi everyone! I'm following IGETC and planning to complete 2 years at a CCC before transfering to a UC for fall 2011 and I'll be using "TAG". I wanted to ask some questions regarding the classes listed on assist.org for my specific major.

Here's the situation: For most of the UC's that I applied to, I end up completing all of those classes by spring 2011. But for some others, I can't seem to find a possible way to complete ALL of the classes being assigned to me. Looking at one of the UC's specific class requirements, it seems impossible to me that someone following IGETC could also complete all of the classes listed on assist for my major (in 2 years while doing 15-16 units a quarter). There simply isn't enough time (unless you take like 25 units a quarter or go ahead and extend your stay at the CCC for 3 years...)

So my questions are:

1) Is anyone else in the same boat as me?

2) Is it a problem if I complete IGETC and 85% of the classes requested on assist.org?

3)Will the UC's decline my application because I haven't completed all the pre-reqs for my selected major?

4)Is it it problematic to not complete 100% of the classes on assist.org?

and lastly...

5) Should I be stressing to complete as many assist.org classes as I can? And by stressing, I mean taking 20-21 units for both winter + spring 2011 quarters.

Thanks in advance,

-CCC student not knowing whether or not he should be worried about this :S.

1) Is anyone else in the same boat as me?
Almost everyone has encountered this at one point or another.

2) Is it a problem if I complete IGETC and 85% of the classes requested on assist.org?

Not necessarily. It really depends on the school and what assist.org says. Sometimes assist.org would say “required” in big bold letters under a set of courses and possibly another set under “recommended.” If it has courses under both “required” and 'recommended" then it is best to complete 100% of the former. But if another school has the same courses but all of them under “required” then try to be within fully completed, with no more than 1 to 2 courses missing.

3)Will the UC’s decline my application because I haven’t completed all the pre-reqs for my selected major?

They can, but this question is just the previous question but reworded. Basically, they have the power to deny you just because you have not fullfilled all of the coursework, but usually it will be a combination of things that gets you denied. Sometimes, you will just be given least priority and they’ll look at your gpa/ECs against others who were given least priority.

4)Is it it problematic to not complete 100% of the classes on assist.org?

Same question again lol. No, not necessarily. Several applicants get accepted with missing pre-reqs. But like I said, its best to only be behind by like 1-2 courses.

However, you mentioned TAG but didnt state which schools you got TAGd with. If your TAG was accepted, then you should absolutely take the courses you listed in the winter/spring quarter. Even if you stated your courses and didn’t list some pre-reqs and you were given a TAG, then you are fine. Just take those courses you listed and pass and you’ll be set for that school.

5) Should I be stressing to complete as many assist.org classes as I can? And by stressing, I mean taking 20-21 units for both winter + spring 2011 quarters.

20-21 units is a huge work load and I wouldn’t recommend it. But, just try to take as many pre-reqs as possible. Don’t bother if you know you wont be able to pass them all at once.

two years is possible to complete IGETC and econ prereqs. It partially depends if you get placed in remedial courses or not.

“Even if you stated your courses and didn’t list some pre-reqs and you were given a TAG, then you are fine.”

Awesome, thanks yoshi! managed to relieve a bit of stress :0

and i my tags were accepted to UCD, UCSD, UCSB, and UCI.
