Questions about ASU

I really would like to go to ASU, but my parents question the school, and I need to convince them I will succeed there. I want to go because I love the whole area, being so close to Phoenix is just great. The warm weather and amazing scenery really sold me on the area. I want to major in business, have a 27 ACT, and graduated from a prestigious college prep school in the chicago area. My parents have heard that many people drop out of ASU because of the party scene, so I need to convince them that I have just as good a chance of succeeding at ASU as I do at Indiana, Iowa, or Ohio State (my other choices). Also, they hear housing for upper classmen is hard to come by, and they are worried about that because I will not have a car at all while in school. Also, will a degree from the WP carey school be that prestigious? As for the flights, will it be a pain flying in and out of phoenix to school and back home? Anyone with answers to my questions, please help!

chicago to tempe i s like a 3 or 4 hour flight which isnt too bad.. i too want to go to arizona state but my grades are currently not high enough. luckily im only a sophomore in hs and have time to improve. my parents would be thrilled if i went to arizona state. the only problem they have is that it is really far from ny
which is where im from. do u no what kind of gpa u need to have to get into arizona state, indiana, or ohio state? im going to have around a 3.1 unwieghted

also arizona state is trying to get rid of thier party image and have been a lot stricter on students so u can tell your parents that

Well, I must admit originally I was not all that excited about my choice to attend ASU, but now I'm really happy that I decided to come here. There are so many different majors and so many opportunities due to the large student population. I don't know anything about the business school, but I know quite a few people majoring in business from all over the country.... so there must be something really good about the program. As for housing, after freshman year living on campus, you get priority in your application for the following year. I had no problem getting housing where I wanted: just make sure to get to the housing office early on the day you can apply for renewal. Flying in and out of Phoenix is really easy. The airport isn't that far away from the campus and you can use the free bus passes to take the bus to the airport. Hope this answers some of your questions.

I don't think ASU is any more of a party school than Indiana or OSU. You can succeed while still having a social life, as long as you keep it under control. You sound like you ultimately want to be successful, so you will be a step ahead.

W.P. Carey is very prestigious. I'm going there next year, and they let me into the professional program as a direct admit (or on-track or something). I'll be majoring in Supply Chain Management which is rated 3rd in the country! Obviously the college is not as amazing as Indiana, or Wisconsin, or other top publics, but a lot of major businesses recruit out of ASU, and it is really your work experience that will help you get into a top MBA program. ASU is also gradually becoming a much more successful program by tightening their standards and extending their requirements.

A degree from Harvard or Penn will get you through the door, but it is ultimately the individual person that succeeds. Yea, the academics at Ivies are top-notch, but you can have a great educational experience here if you want to.

You should apply to the honors college.

A car is not necessary around here. There is a college shuttle called the Flash that can take you around campus. Although it may be easier to get around the city with a car, you'll be ok without one. Make some friends with cars.
Most upperclassmen live off-campus. My sister (a junior) lives in a nice apartment with two roommates...and it wasn't that hard to find, and it's about the same cost as living in the dorms.

Sky Harbor is a major international airport only about a 15 minute drive from campus. Very busy, but they manage everything very well. Any airport can be annoying, but as long as you are prepared, it won't be very painful at all.

Hope I helped. I feel like I post too much on this forum, but oh well.

Just to add...D lived off campus junior and senior years and never vrought her car to campus. She had a bike just like a zillion other ASU kids. She lived less than a mile from the school.Off campus housing is really easy to find.
The business school is highly ranked. There is a business honors program if that would make your parents feel better.
Everyone D knew who wanted a grad or professional program after graduation got admitted (no kidding) that includes law, medical, dental, physical therapy, pharmacy, mba and in her case Grad School in Musicology.

grades not high enough for ASU?
they accept everyone
i mean your guaranteed in with a 22 ACT no matter your GPA
