Hi everyone. I just had a couple last minute questions about BCT.

Would you recommend memorizing anything?

Do the cadre teach you how to do stuff like make your bed or should you learn it beforehand?

How often do you check your mail?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Katherine

Nope, they made it pretty clear not to worry about memorizing anything at orientation. No need to worry about it yet. Yes, all of BCT I is basically marching, physical conditioning learning a lot of the regulations, standards, ranks, knowledge etc including how to order our rooms and beds and closets lol. And the cadre take us to the mail room a few times a week as I've been hearing. Hope this helps :)

As Z-man said, BCT is there to teach you these things! So no memorizing or learning beforehand.

Depends on the Flight for mail, maybe ever other day, maybe once a week.

Know that priors and preppies know some of this stuff already, so they can often help out. (Don't needlessly bug them though, lol)

Thanks everyone! :]

I dont know... I would memorize some things. better to get a jump on things. I know it helped my basic times.

Sir, major general john m schofield's graduation address to the graduating class of 1879 at west point is as follows.... THE DISCIPLINE!

I have some questions as well, about physical training: how many miles should we expect to be running (I know they said expect running up to four miles in a day, but how many at one time)? And are we going to be going on any early morning runs (like five o'clock early)? Thanks :)

You have morning runs every other day, probably around 4 miles total doing indian runs, jogging, and sprints. Formation running after morning PT doesn't happen too often and its usually VERY slow.

Indian runs that I have done are where you jog in a straight line and then the person in the back sprints to the front while the rest hold a jog, and so on and so on.

This has nothing to do with BCT, but about laptops: what do we need to get besides a printer (i.e. are flash drives and external hard drives given to us- actually what is given to us)?

You are issued external hard drives (at least 120 Gigs) and a flash drive (at least 512 MB). You won't need to purchase anything else unless you want a second monitor.
