Hi all! I’m considering transferring to Georgia Tech as a Computer Science major from an out of state university for my junior year, but I had some questions before I could make my choice.
- Are you likely to graduate on time as a CS major, being from out of state and joining as a rising junior?
- Is it true what they say about CS at GT? That it leaves no time for a social life?
- Is it easier to connect with other transfers at GT, or to connect with anyone in your year?
If anyone could just offer their experience at Georgia Tech, as a transfer or not, that would be so helpful!
they are probably working
graduating on time depends on the school you’re originally transferring from since every college is different. check GT’s page on the graduation requirements for CS majors to see if you’re missing some important classes they require. for example, i know physics is required at GT, but for some other schools it’s not. also, even with not transferring, i know a lot of people who stay another semester or year because the classes can be pretty tough or they get an internship for a semester. overall, graduating not on time isn’t that uncommon so i wouldn’t worry about it that much.
as a CS major at GT who thinks they got in as a fluke, it is pretty hard, but that’s because it’s a great institution. as long as you learn how to manage your time and stay on top of things its doable, but may not always be enjoyable ahahaha. but that’s what makes the degree so valuable >.< you could definitely still have time to have a social life but you just need to remain balanced.
GT gets a lot of transfers, mostly from other GA schools like UGA and GSU, but i personally found it hard to connect with others as a non transfer student. it’s not the friendliest school but there are opportunities you can get involved in that will make it easier to connect with other students if you try hard.
