Questions about Belmont's Graduate program

Hey there I am new to this forum, and I joined so that I could ask a few questions that I have not found the answer to on other threads. I am working through my undergraduate degree in music and I wish to continue my education through a Masters program, most likely in music performance -guitar. Right now one of my top options is Belmont University. I cannot find any information about their graduate programs on this forum so here it is! Has anyone been through it? Would you recommend it or not? Also does it enable and equip you to become a professor at a college/university? That is what I wish to do, and I need to know if Belmont is "for me".

ANY other info on BU's graduate music program OR Belmont in general would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Please read this before deciding to go to grad school: [100 Reasons NOT to Go to Graduate School](http://100rsns.blogspot.com/)
I work for professors at a major research university. The prestige of an applicant’s grad school matters when colleges hire professors (or more likely adjuncts). Belmont is not prestigious. Unless you become some world famous musician, you’re probably not going to get an academic job because the market is so oversaturated with MFAs and PhDs in the humanities. Save your money and don’t go.

Belmont has a very good reputation in the music industry- especially on the music business side.

I’ve heard good things about Belmont for music, especially music business. But, would it be better to get a music education degree? I do not know, but look at the educational backgrounds of music professors to see how they compare.

I did an MBA at Belmont. There is definitely cache in their music (especially contemporary…) and music business departments. Having Mike Curb and Vince Gill involved certainly doesn’t hurt. And if memory serves, Brad Paisley is an alumnus (or at least attended…).

Nashville is a nice town. The summers are hot and muggy, but it’s the South – can’t really be avoided. Check out Market Street (2nd Ave) and Broadway for tunes and grub. Wildhorse, Tootsie’s, Legends, etc. Also check out Centennial Park and its to-scale model of the Parthenon.

missmbv Through some research I am definitely considering the music education degree. It is an option for sure.

If anyone has been through it does a masters in music degree enable me to be a music professor? I have seen a bit about needing a phd. and if that is the case then it could affect college choices for me now.

I know there was mention that Belmont is not very prestigious but I have found many other statements to the contrary. What do you all think about that??

I’m loving the details about BU! Keep them coming!
