My d is trying to decide between Bowdoin and Haverford. Here are a few questions, but any information one way or the other would be appreciated. She really likes both schools.
Is there a system in place for arranging international internships, particularly during the summer?
Also, do students take advantage of the surrounding town and nearby city, or do they stay mostly on campus? Is it necessary to have a car?

Re: internships - we have a Career Planning Center (CPC) that can hook you up with all sorts of internships, whether they are abroad or in the US. The language departments can also elect to send teaching assistants abroad for the summer sometimes.

I think students do take advantage of the area. Whether it is through community service in the midcoast area or through BOC trips, people definitely break out of the Bowdoin Bubble more often than it may seem. It isn't necessary to have a car - but it is nice to have access to a car on occasion - so if one of your friends have a car its useful for rides to the airport or whatever. Having a bike is really handy, though.
