Questions about Brooks School

Hi All
Do any of you here are Brooks students/parents? My close friend wants to learn about this school as much as possible. Are they a good school? Is their academic strong? How is the dorm? How is student life there in general? Can anyone help? Thank you

Hello - my friend’s son attends and absolutely loves it. The academics are strong, as well as athletics. I don’t know much about the dorms, but I’m sure they are fine. Good luck!

sgopal2: thank you so much. My friend heard that it looks like a farm, and in rural area, and old. So she is worried that it may be very conservative. She looks at the website, but it did not say much.

It is “traditional,” but it’s an excellent and under appreciated school. The academics & athletics are strong. I’m friendly with a teacher who’s been there for decades, and he loves the culture and is also a big part of it.

While I’ve visited Andover in the past, I have never seen the Brooks campus. Since Brooks is on the North side of Andover, I can’t imagine it being too rural. Andover itself is a fairly plain suburban Boston town. Great train access to downtown, peaceful streets, and lots of nearby shopping/restaurants/activities.

There are all types of political beliefs at boarding schools. While most of the parents who send their kids are fairly conservative, the students end up having their own opinions (including liberalism). Good luck

When you go there, you will be attratced by their friendly and tight community. Their dorms are huge, and really pretty. The campus is gorgeous and I’ll describe this school as really caring. Brooks is a rather strict school, so the students there are really disciplined. They are really quiet even in the canteen during lunch, and they don’t really participate as actively (as I see) as other schools , maybe that’s how the school tradition is, more of a lecture base learning school than a discussion base one. I find this school great, and I love it , but the only thing is, do you really want a quiet and disciplined school or a more energetic and active school?

doriswong741, sgopal2, and Pelicandad: thank you very much. I just told my friend’s family to visit it like you advised. Seems this is completely different from Williston or Blair.
