Questions about Brown Application

Brown doesn't get much more streamlined once you're here so I think the app is a good indicator of what it's like here.

Brown wants to judge students based on a certain set of information they've used successfully for a long time. It takes very little time to fill out the app, and the "Why Brown?" and "Who told you about Brown?" essays are common at other places and interesting questions to ask when trying to get a feel for why a student may fit at Brown or not.

The essay itself has a topic so general that just about any essay a student is writing for other schools can be used.

I actually found the Brown app to be easier than many others...

the essays werent an issue at all

yes, the essays are not the problem at all. It's all the other stuff I mentioned earlier....

All I can say is that every college I applied to (of 4) had different teacher recommendation forms, and in all cases my teachers filled out some info and then attached the same letters.

I have a question about the "Why Brown" essay.

I tried to let my personality shine through, and describe my three academic interests and a few clubs/activities I wanted to join. Obviously, this exceeded 1500 characters, and I'm feeling a bit annoyed because I can't seem to cut it down to that limit without resorting to primer style writing, and sounding painfully dull. Do any current students have suggestions?

I second that!! I started my essays before submitting app Part 1, and now, after submitting it and learning of the 1500 char limit, I'm forced to cut down 600 char+ of my "Why Brown" essay...and my personality in the essay is going down the drain. Same applies to "Who told you about Brown" and PLME essays...oh well

help or suggestions would be appreciated too....(any way we can submit a essay separately and just mail it in even if it's over the limit or something, i don't know..)

Answer the question with honesty, and have your personality shine through more in your main essay.

I don't know if this has changed, but last year you could submit the first part of the application online and mail a hard copy of the second part (the part with the essays).

right, but do you think that if I do Part II (the essays) on paper, then I'll have more space to write my why brown and who told you about brown essays? thanks
