Questions about BU - Sargent College

Hey guys,

I am a senior who was recently admitted to BU - Sargent College to study Human Physiology on a presidential scholarship. I am almost certainly going to commit to BU, and I have some questions that I want to ask you all in this forum:

  1. Does being enrolled in Sargent College limit the research you can carry out with other professors in other undergraduate colleges, such as the College of Arts and Sciences? Or is there freedom in that regard?
  2. I am also considering minoring in piano performance at BU. Is that possible, given that I will be enrolled in Sargent?

In general, how much flexibility do you have to take classes, and interact with professors in between undergraduate colleges at BU?

Thank you for taking the time to read this and answer my questions.

  1. Definitely not, Sargent is also connected with many research labs. Also, I'm just curious, why would being in Sargent limit the research you can do?
  2. Yes. As a Sargent student for your first few years you'll mostly be taking classes through CAS so you can interact with professors in CAS.

Thank you very much for your response, lolog123. Is it possible to double major in between colleges - so if, hypothetically, I wanted to add a philosophy major in CAS to my Human physiology major in Sargent, would I be able to do that?

@Pianology23 You would be able to do it, it would just be difficult as you’re basically taking a lot more classes.

Thank you very much, @lolog123. I really appreciate your time and advice.

Hi, I am going to be a senior who is interested in majoring in human physiology. Was it a competitive major to get in to BU with; BU is my top choice
