The weather is very dry. You will be issued chapstick in Basic in fact. Even when it snows, the air is still dry.

thanks for the pics Shines i put the Falcon as my background...

wow lots of pics...oh...man, I had to close the window. I'm too nervous about my nomination right now...jeez I never get this emotional, don't know how I'll live through the next few weeks.

Andy.... breathe in... breathe out... repeat!

I'm ok...it's just that every picture I see makes me excited to go there and I don't want to get my hopes up before I hear about my nomination at the end of the month.

I know exactly what you mean.

I think most of us do.

I know i do.

When i talked with my ALO during our three and a half hour interview he talked about the chow house a bit. He said while you do not have to "square your meal" its best to just stare at the falcon logo (which i see in that picture) and, always "ground" your fork from "twelve to two"(like a clock) and always be sure to have food in your mouth that you can chew in less than 5 chews. As he said, "If some dick notices you took to much he'll wait to right when you put it in your mouth and go '[ALO's last name], receite the honor code!' or something like that. And since you'll probably choke or send the food flying, they'll usually crap on you for a few minutes"

He also said since he sat next to "Light weight" table, some guys would often go and take the left over milkshakes and box snacks the "light weights" get but dont want.

Gah...seeing those pictures makes me want it even more...GAHH ::does calculus homework::

Here's some random pictures I've taken of the Academy and stuff I've done here. Let me know if it works or not, I've never tried this before.

Whats with the milk-vomiting contest?

Whats with the milk-vomiting contest?

Like most squads, mine usually has a tail gate party for a couple of hours before the game. We have food and generally just hang out. My squad usually has some sort of challenge guarnteed to make you puke, should you be foolish enough to participate in your blues.

The old gallon challenge. Were some of those pictures from the Stanley Canyon Hike? I would recommend everyone to do that hike sometime and try not to fall in the stream.

What was the first picture with all the water?

I don't know where Stanley Cannon is, but my friends and I hiked up the Venable Lakes trail in the Sangre de Christo's about an hour and a half from the Academy.

I think the water you're talking about is in mid-air and about to wake up one of my unfortunate squad-mates trying to catch some sleep.

Some kid at SS chugged a glass of syrup, then later in the day a glass of soy sauce. He didn't even puke, I was amazed. Stanley Canyon hike was really fun, I enjoyed it too texas_falcon. Question for surfnkid, were you allowed a camera during BCT? I thought you weren't allowed to have anything.

No I deffinately wasn't allowed a camera. But there are always a lot of people taking pictures (upperclassmen, the media, etc.) and they tend to get posted on the K drive (a public drive on the USAFA network) or at places like the AOG website.

"He said while you do not have to "square your meal" its best to just stare at the falcon logo (which i see in that picture) and, always "ground" your fork from "twelve to two"(like a clock) and always be sure to have food in your mouth that you can chew in less than 5 chews."

There is no max number of chews you're required to stay within anymore. During BCT you have to eat sitting at attention (which entails many little intricacies), then during the year you'll probably be at ease once you sit down (meaning you can move aorund, just not talk). This is one of those things I've seen change every year though.

"12-3" is the traditional way to ground utensils (which also have to be in a certain order). If you're left-handed you're allowed to ground them "12-9." Don't worry about all the minor details; it'll all be taught to you once you get here.

soccer 1458, I remember that kid who chugged the syrup! I only got to watch it, but I was almost certain that the kid would vomit....

I saw that one too. He looked like he was preety dang close to losing it.

I was guessing he had a little dehydration followed by a diabetic coma coming his way. I don't think he lost it on those, but he did when he tried a gallon of water.

What is "Fast Neat Average" "Friendly Good Good" About? I remember my ALO telling me about it but forgot the details. Supposedly on this form after every meal you are supposed to rate it and generally you fill out "Fast, Neat, Average, Friendly, Good, Good" to the questions. Also its a general way of recognizing people from the academy by going "Fast Neat Average?" and the other person would go "Friendly good good".

Is that right? Is there more to the story?

Yes it's true. Except that they don't have the forms at every meal.

I heard a story that may or may not be true that a grad on a rescue helicopter used this to identify a downed pilot (also a grad) when he forgot the answer to a question on his ISOPREP (a form all pilots fill out that includes information only they would know, such as make and model of their first car.)
