Hello everyone I am finishing up my 2nd year at this college. If you have any questions I will answer them.
Oh thank you so much
I got accepted and the dead line is in few days and i cant make a decision. Are the classes large like we hear in ucsd? Are classes taught my proffesors or TA’s? i am a chemical enginerring major, do you you know how is the eng prog in general. I have done my research but i’d like to hear from some in school. Students are friendly in general? I went to ucsd and talked to some people and the input i got wasnt that good.
I live 90 minutes away but i dont really care about. Thats all i have for now. Thank you
Oh also, i am a transfer student with 95 units. Can i graduate in 2 years?
My roommate last year was a chemical engineering major and my friend is a chemistry major. The classes are always taught by professors I have never heard of a TA teaching at this college. Only some GE classes are large but most of the classes are usually 25-40 students. Engineering in general is great here. This is known as an engineering school after all. Unfortunately most of the engineering majors, including chemical engineering, is impacted. My friend has a hard time getting his chemistry classes each quarter. I recommend joining the 2-year plan which will guarantee you priority registration. If my friend had that he would have an easier time getting his classes.
Do you mind telling me about the 2 year plan? Thank you so much
I’m actually on this plan. The 2 year plan is for transfer students who want to graduate in 2 years. As long as you maintain a certain gpa and take a certain amount of units per quarter you get priority registration. It allows you to register for classes before the general population and you can sign up for up to 19 units at once. Students not on the 2 year or 4 year plan have to wait a few days for registration and they can only sign up for 13-14 units initially. Google 2 year plan cal poly pomona for more info.
Thank you. I have a few questions. When will they send out request for transcripts? And how’s the CIS program.
They will tell you on BroncoDirect. I had to send mine in after I was accepted. If your a transfer student I recommend you send your transcript now and again when they ask for it. I’ve heard generally positive things about the CIS program. My friends tell me they spend hours doing hw and projects but in return they gain useful skills that can translate to industry.
Done with 50% of the units applicable toward your degree?
@krunal0727 this is one of the requirements, i have 92 units how would i know if i have 50% applicable units?
If you went to orientation they give you a curriculum sheet with the number of units needed to graduate on top. If not then google cal poly pomona curriculum sheet and look for 2014-2015 curriculum sheets for your major. That will give you a rough idea if you meet the requirements or not but you won’t know for sure until you go to orientation and discuss it with the advisor or registrars office.
I’ve asked admissions if I can send it but they told me
To wait. Is everything hands on learning like the slogan? Or is both research and hands on? Also I’m a transfer student, what is orientation like.
@ka0sControl Yeah its more hands on learning. I was bored at my orientation. We get split up into groups and given a tour of the campus. After that we had lunch and sat in an auditorium for an hour going over basic stuff like safety, emergency contacts, cheating policies and so on. Finally we were split up into our respective majors and went to a computer lab where the advisors helped us register for classes.
Is it an all day event? I will be there by myself while my sisters go to Disneyland lol
How is the animal science here?
Do you know anyone that got in as a waitlist that is in animal science??
Are co-op placements available for business majors and how hard is it to find a job after graduation?
@ka0sControl no its not all day at most 5 hours.
@krunal0727 Hey, I will also be transferring from community college in the Fall and have some questions about orientation also. It says its from 8am-5pm which is quite long to be on a tour for, is it actually an 8 hour program? Coming in as a transfer, I want to know what the upper-division courses are like in terms of difficulty or how they differ from the lower divisions. You said most classes are 25-40, isn’t that regular though? Also how are the Campus amenities, like the Fitness center or pool, or do they have a basketball court for recreational use for students?
@krunal0727 Also, the 2 year plan, besides registering for courses the first time at orientation, will everything be done online, pick your own schedule and professors? I’m sure you know about the rate-my-professor website, which helped tremendously in CC, have you had any problems with professors?
Hey, thank you so much for doing this,. I am transferring to CPP in Fall '15 and I am really concerned about housing. Do transfer students usually get on-campus housing? I called Housing services and the guy was basically telling me to look more into Off-Campus, because Transfers were not very likely to get on-campus suites. I’m not looking forward to living off-campus, I visited the campus recently and anything outside seems like a really long walk. (Don’t have a car)
So to recap:
- Is it that unlikely to get on-campus housing as a transfer student? Is it even worth it applying and putting 450 down that I might not get back until 2/3 months from now? What of the CCP Village, is that separate from the suites?
- How is the off-campus housing like in Pomona? Anything fairly close or walking distance?
PD: Sorry about all the questions, trying to get them all out in one post instead of posting again
Hello. I’m currently a Junior in high school and I’m thinking about attending Cal Poly Pomona. It would be really helpful if some current students or alumni could answer some of my questions:
What was hard about adjusting to campus life?
Which program(s) did you enjoy the most?
What regrets, if any, do you have about attending and what would you have done instead?
