Questions about Claremont McKenna!

Hello! I'm going to be a senior after this ummer and I've been considering this college.

One thing about CMC that attracted me is that it's a small liberal arts college and I like the idea of a more personal setting. Plus it's in California, which is one of the most liberal states (I like the open-mindedness of liberals). Whether or not a college is accepting of gays/lesbians is an important factor to me. Also, I heard that CMC gives good financial aid and scholarships. My family doesn't make that much money.

I'm interested in the math/science field, but I'm really not sure what exactly I want to pursue. I've been thinking of maybe biochemistry or biomedical engineering. Or maybe something solely in the chemistry field. How are the science programs and department of this school? Do they do a lot of research with the professors? Are they well prepared for grad school?

I know another Claremont College, Harvey Mudd, might be more suitable for this field, but Harvey Mudd is more a of reach than Claremont McKenna is for me. And I think CMC would be better for me financially. I heard about cross registration. What exactly is cross registration? Does it allow me to take classes from any of the Claremont Colleges if I'm attending one of them?

Also, how are the people are Claremont McKenna? Is there a certain time of atmosphere here? And if so, how would you describe it?

What do you like most about CMC? What is there to do on campus?

What do you not enjoy about CMC or what do you think the disadvantages of attending this school are/would be?

Responses would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, I'm going to CMC in the fall, for IR. if you wanna go into engineering, CMC is not the place for you - they don't even have engineering! you can see a list of all the majors at their website, tho http://www.claremontmckenna.edu Also, Mudd's acceptance rate is actually higher than CMC's, so definitely apply there.
as for cross-registering, you can take classes at any of the 5 schools. if you double major, you can do 1 @ CMC & 1 @ another school, but if you single major, it must be a major @ CMC.
when i visited there a couple months ago, people generally seemed quite laid back, it is also a very politically active school. CMC is more of the more conservative LACs (student body is balanced - 1/3 left, 1/3 moderate, 1/3 right - whereas most LACs are like 90% left), but the other Claremont schools are very liberal.
possible disadvantages - gets very hot, difficult to go into LA

please private message me if i can answer any other questions!
