Okay, forgive me if these are stupid questions, but everything I've read so far on the subject has been a little confusing... How do I make a Telebears appointment? When and how do I pick my classes? Thanks. :)

you will learn all of this eventually. its more something people show you and you pick up. not something explained online.

Okay, thanks, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing out on something that was taking place right now.

You don’t make an appointment, the appointment is made for you. And you don’t have to worry about that or anything until you get to Calso (Orientation). You can start looking at what classes you want to take using the online schedule though: [UCB Online Schedule of Classes: Search Results](http://osoc.berkeley.edu/OSOC/osoc?p_term=FL&p_list_all=Y)

Here is a very brief and therefore not fully correct summary of the process to give you an idea (simplified to yield the gestalt and for literary convenience):

Each semester, students are assigned timeslots for telebears, the online registration system. The assignment is loosely based on seniority. You will learn to grumble about your appointment times.

Telebears has three sequential stages - Phase I, Phase II, and Adjustment. The idea of phase I is to allow all students to register in the most important classes (important to them) up to 10 units. Phase II is when all students add additional classes to get up to 16 units. The Adjustment period continues on to let people make changes, switching from one course to another, and add courses to whatever load you want for the semester.

In each Telebears phase, students can’t use it to register for classes until their appointment has arrived and if they are required to enter an advisor code, they must have that as well. Incoming freshmen are given the advisor code during CalSO.

Once your appointment time has passed for that phase, you can log on during certain hours to make changes, switch classes, etc, but can’t go over the maximum units of that phase. When the new phase starts, you are again unable to use it until your appointment for that phase has arrived.

There are various rules and limits set up for classes - some may be restricted to certain majors, to juniors and seniors, to newly admitted transfer students, or other such categories. Some are open to all.

If there are no more open spaces for the class (or for the category you fit), then you can waitlist. Most but not all classes allow waitlists up to some defined maximum. Over time, you may or may not be cleared from the waitlist. Almost all classes will clear some people from the waitlist, although it may not be until a week or two into the semester.

Once again, this is deliberately simplified and omits plenty of nuances, important details, exceptions and the like.
