I have two questions:

Can students in the School of Foreign Service take classes in the College? Also, can a person do their major in SFS, and do a minor in the College?

I have two questions:

Can students in the School of Foreign Service take classes in the College? Also, can a person do their major in SFS, and do a minor in the College?

I'm not really sure, but... I doubt you'd have much time to anyway. When you add up the Core Curriculum requirements, foreign lang reqs, and then your actual major classes, there's not a lot of room for extra classes.

I don't think that you can major in something that's outside of your school unless your a foreign language major.

I could be wrong, but I think (emphasis on "think") that's how it goes.

I know that you can't major in another school. But, can you MINOR in another school?

Yeah, for SFS it would be really hard to complete requirements, learn a language and minor in a another area, especially if you do study abroad.

the SFS is a very strict school. you can't minor or major outside the sfs..and yes you can take college classes if you are in the sfs. college classes are open for everyone. you cant even minor in the SFS. you do something called a certificate

Yeah, and you cannot major in a language within the SFS. You can't split minors and/or majors between schools.

you cant have a minor in the SFS, but you can take 6 courses (enough credits that it qualifies as a minor), and altho they wont print minor on ur transcript, you can get ur dean to write u a cover letter to go with ur transcript when u graduate (to send to ur employer or whatever), saying that you have completed these 6 courses and that it's the equivalent of a minor in ______. it's a nice little loophole.

also, a lot of the classes you take in college, SFS, and the other schools are mixed, sometimes professors dont even know which kids in their class are from which schools, so ull definitely be in classes with kids from other schools

It seems like the major requirements are very strict... is this so?

Calidan: Major requirements in the College are not too strict; about 8-12 courses to fulfill your major.

SFS requirements are very strict

1 Pro Seminar
3 courses history
2 gov courses
4 courses in econ
2 lit courses
2 philosophy courses
2 theology courses
1 sophomore topical
1 course in geography (Map of the Modern World)
Certification of Proficiency in modern foreign language.

Then about 8-12 courses in SFS to fulfill your major.

The College GE requirements are a lot more lax.

Oh, good. I guess I got some misinformation, then...

Whew I'm glad I didn't apply to SFS. My interviewer did SFS and hated economics and she had to take so many of those courses lol.

I'm hoping to place out of two economics courses through AP exams, because taking 4 would really be a pain.
