I was told to go to Chem 4 by the eadvising thing on TritonLink. I'd rather take Chem6a, but how is that as a course? I took chemistry in high school and passed that, so I'm not sure why I need to take Chem4. Would Chem 6a be something I'll struggle in if my background in Chemistry isn't as strong? Do they expect you to know enough to pass an AP exam on the first day? I'd really like to be on par with everyone else.

I'm a chemistry major as well.

Thanks for all you help!

i also want to know the answer to this question as well as: is the chemistry placement exam mandatory? or can we just choose chemistry 6a when we're signing up for classes? is that the most basic class?

just start in 6A. every year we have flocks of people dropping back down to chem 4, but rarely does anyone go from 4 to 6A because it's harder to catch up that way.

(general bio major, revelle college)

do ap chem lab notebooks exempt someone from the 6BL and 6CL lab courses?

just chem 6BL. chem 6CL hasn't existed since winter 2005, it's been replaced by chem 100a even though they cover 80% of the same experiments.

and it's not guaranteed -- you'll have to bring in your lab notebook for it to be approved first.

What does the approval depend on? What is the criteria for our old notebooks. Did you use your old AP Chem notebook to get out of Chem 6bl? Is it one of those classes one would want to skip or should we take it given all the neat things we could learn? If I wanted to use my lab notebook, where would I go and what would I have to do to use it for credit?

good god, you're full of questions this week.

the professor(s) reviewing it and the quality of your notebook and whether it actually covers the same topics as the class you're trying to skip. see previous. no, but it got approved to do so after the fact. it is not a class full of neat things unless you've got a wicked sense of humor. you contact the chem department, give them your notebook, and they'll hand it off to the proper authorities.

so its easy to drop from 6a to 4 if it gets too tough right?
just wanna clarify

easier than going from 4 to 6A.

nb: chem 4's traditionally been held MWF at 8 am, with labs either friday morning or friday afternoon. plan accordingly.
