Hey guys so I was accepted to Columbia College via a likely letter and it is one of my top choices so here are some questions for current students

What is the typical schedule like for a CC freshman ? (What core classes are normally taken 1st year?)

Is the cheer team good / competitive to get on to?

Are you allowed to take summer classes before starting freshman yr?

How and when do you apply for the 3-2 combined plan (and can you do the combined plan in 4 yrs if you work over the summer?)

If you do the combined plan are you only required to do part of the core like the fu students?

Why do you people leave your goddamn cigarette stubs everywhere? If I end up going, I will specifically organize a cleaning club. If that fails, I will single-handedly clean up the garbage.

How would you qualify for accelerated programs with the graduate schools?

What is the best dorm to live in?

How do you feel about nyc life vs. campus life?

lastly, if I get into penn which is my other favorite school, why should I choose columbia over it?

It’s about the antithesis of being a USC Song Girl, meaning you can be neither hot nor talented. Seems like if you’re not obese and have an interest in being on it, you can do it.

You think this is a Columbia problem? I don’t remember cig butts all over Columbia, nor do you notice them all over NYC.

You apply as a junior. Info here:

“The Combined Plan (3-2) Program provides students with the opportunity to earn both the B.A. at Columbia College and the B.S. at The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science in five years. Students must apply in their junior year to The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. In order to apply, students must have completed or be in the process of completing the pre-engineering courses including…”

Link to the actual Plan info is broken, but you’ll talk to the Dean first before applying. Make sure that you get decent grads in Calc. Comp Sci and Physics before applying (Chem is not that important, but you still need to take it).

The number of 3-2 or 4-1 students (SEAS students who get a BA from CC) is always very small, even though it gives you a huge leg up when you apply to grad school. You probably can’t finish both BA/BS in 4 years, unless you get a ton of AP credit and load up every semester.

No, you need to take the full Core Curriculum.

Columbia students have an edge over Penn with getting accepted into elite graduate schools.
