Questions About Deadlines, etc

The deadline for NYU admissions is January 15, however, someone else stated that there was an extension but I don't see this mentioned anywhere...

I'm planning to send my letters of recs, transcripts, etc. on January 12 so it should be postmarked on that day. But on the important deadlines page, it states that:

"Applications postmarked after these deadlines will be considered only if space remains in the school/college and program desired. Credentials (transcripts, test scores, letters of recommendation, etc.) received well after the application deadline will put you at a disadvantage in the admissions process."

It would take about 3-4 days max to get the letter from where I live to NY (I'm guessing that's in business days), which would be a bit over the deadline. Would I still be subjected to "disadvantage" in the admissions decisions?

One more thing: I need to send in a financial statement since I am international. Do I do it now or after they tell me to?

I'm not sure about the financial statement thing, but I'm sure that if your materials arrive only a few days late, they wouldn't mind. I think they mean "well after the deadline" as in weeks after the deadline.

Also, I would put all your materials in one package and send it with Fedex and delivery confirmation if you can (I don't trust usps).

why not usps?

they lost my transcript twice for a summer program that I was applying to, but I guess if you want to take the risk go ahead.
