questions about deadlines

On the JHU admission website, it says the deadline was Jan 1st.

The Director of Admission sent out a letter on 12/29/04 to Regular applicants, saying they've extended the deadline to 1/21. SO what's the deal here guys?

When's the actual deadline for RD? Did anyone else receive the same letter?

ya come on guys, i need an answer

i am an rd applicant too, but i didn't recieve any such letter. in fact, i recieved a postcard by mail saying they have recived my app, reminding me to send in the other materials by jan 1st. i sent my app in by the 22nd of dec so maybe that's why i didn't recieve the letter you got.

i didn't get a letter

Hey I got a letter too. THe deadline for the application and supplement is january 15 and the deadline for you teacher recs and other stuff is jan 21. Jeez its from the drector of admission, why wouldnt you trust him. ( I thought I had a good chance of gettign accepted becuase o fthe letter, why else would he send a personal mail that late to a person who he knows only the SAT scres of ? ( Not that i had 1500s or anything )

oh no, does that mean i am licked or something coz i didn't get a letter? i sent all my app materials much before the deadline so maybe it could be that i didn't get a letter because they had already recieved my application. i do hope its the second reason that's true.

Well that makes sense too ( I am just stating the previous because it gives me more confidence :))

I think its sent to all applicants who havnt submitted their applciation yet and have good chances. SO there that satisfies us both. Dont worry you sent in your application you are way better than us ( i am not kidding here)

My letter said "please complete and return the enclosed part I, and PART II, as soon as possible but no later than 1/21. Be sure to have appropriate staff at you rhigh school submit the rest of the application materials no later than our extended deadline of 1/31."

Did we all get different letters? Same letter? Whaaaaat's going on?

hmm..interesting.

okay maybe i should call them since no one here got the letter

Dude you blind? or are you ignoring me? I said i got the letter. Anyway i was wrong abt the dates earlier and it is the 21st. Ha you are ignoring a letter from the dean of admissions and callin jhu lol shows how smart you are.

well it's better to check than to be sorry....and yes i did email an admisson officer to ask and she verified it. nomad, mistakes happened. Calm down. You made a mistake when you said 1/15....so I thought it was an administrative error. That's why I thought it would make sense to phone them. And yes, I am smart. Thanks!

yeah it doesn't hurt to play it safe

... you thought someone would send an email faking the signature of the president of admissions ? wow.

So the deadline is January 21st?

hey I received the letter too. I was actually strongly considering JHU before but for some reason or another didn't end up applying there. If I did send in by this extended application deadline, won't it be sorta frowned on by the adcoms as sort of like "he wasnt really that interested anyways?" Would they give more preference to someone who applied by the jan 1 deadline?

hey leejwwc, did you send your sat scores there before or something?

They get a list of National Merit SemiFinalists, and oftentimes work from that.

hey guys, just to clarify - I sent my SAT I scores and 2 of my SAT II scores to them (one of them which I retook later and scored better on the second time) I didn't qualify for NM Semifinalist, was a commended, and my SATs compared to many others on this board are relatively low (1440, 800, 750, the 3 scores JHU received from me). I'm still wondering why they sent me this letter! I would like to know how they go about selecting ppl. though

nomad..don't you have something better to do than sit here and criticize? And I didn't get an email, I got a letter. Huge difference buddy.
