Questions about depaul.

Hi, I recently got accepted to Depaul and i had a few questions about it.

1) If i attend i am currently debating between Corcoran Hall and University Hall, does anyone have a preference on either?

2) Without a football team is there very much school spirit/involvement on campus? Are there a lot of clubs/ sports or other activities that people are actively involved in?

3) How easy is it to get to downtown Chicago and just go explore and hangout?

4) I got a 6,000 dollar scholarship, but was hoping to be considered for the Service or Leadership scholarship, because i have been very involved in both throughout high school, but it says that you must be invited to apply. Is there any way i could still be considered or apply for this scholarship. It would really help increase my chances of attending.

5) I would be taking my classes in the Loop campus, has anyone taken classes there? What's it like? It seems really cool to be taking classes in downtown Chicago!

6) Would you recommend staying in the dorm at the Loop campus, or staying at Lincoln park and then just going to the Loop for class?

7) Just in general any information about Depaul that you can tell me, hows the campus, the classes, the students? anything else. I am really considering Depaul and am very excited!

Hey, I am planning on transferring to DePaul in the fall as a junior, but I grew up around Chicago and I know some people who go to DePaul, so I can try and answer some of your questions.

2) Part of the reason I chose to transfer to DePaul is because I go to a state school right now (in California) and so there is definitely a football-frat party type feel and I don’t like that. DePaul has quite a few different clubs, but it’s up to you to get involved. I think that since they don’t have a football team, basketball is their most popular sport. They used to have a really good basketball team, but I think it’s kind of average now.

3) Super easy. You just hop on the red line train and you’ll be there within 20 minutes.

5) I toured the Loop campus over winter break. It definitely has a city feel to it, which I personally love. It’s in beautiful buildings and if you go up to like the 12th floors there are gorgeous views of the city. I took a tour of the communications building and they have nice new facilities with professional equipment. The student center is also very nice. The bookstore is a Barnes and Noble but they sell your class books there too and there is a starbucks and other eating places in the building. The student center has a nice feel to it. There is a lot of open space and places to sit. Plus the architecture is very nice.

6) Well if all your classes will be at the Loop, it might be easier to live there, but if you want to get that real dorm experience (which I highly recommend for your first year), it might be better to live at the Lincoln Park campus. You could take a couple classes at the Loop and a couple general education classes at Lincoln Park.

Gratz on acceptance!! I’m super excited too~

I’ll be going there in Fall of 2011 but from what I’ve heard/found:

 1. On the University vs Corcoran, it really depends on what your looking for in a dorm. I absolutely hate community bathrooms, so I’d choose University over Corcoran. However, I’ve heard that Corcorans got one of the strongest dorm community feel out of all of the dorms and even though its right next to the train, it doesn’t really pose any problems.

3) Like NTKS17 said, everything’s seriously just a train ride away.

4) I’m pretty sure you’ve already been “invited” to apply by the acceptance letter, but just in case, call DePaul’s financial aid office and see what they say about it.

6) The bad thing about the dorms at the Loop is that they have their own meal plan, so you can’t eat at the Lincoln Park campus. If really do wanna stay at the UCC, double check that most of your classes are at the Loop. It’s a pretty cool building and you’re mixed with students from other colleges.

Hope this helps~

Thanks for the info guys! Hopefully i can apply for the scholarship but ill call and check with the admissions office. I think I would really like depaul, hopefully i can go visit soon! Seems like a good school!
