Questions about DePaul?

Hey everyone!

So I am looking at DePaul for a double major in accounting and music performance. I have a 3.7 UW GPA, 3.9 W. I have a 32 ACT, 3 AP classes (will have taken a total of 6 tests, taking two AP classes senior year) and tons of EC’s. I am currently a junior.

Questions:
-How are my chances for being accepted to the Strobel honors program? Are scholarships given for Strobel Scholars?
-How strenuous is a double major? Doable? Near impossible?
-As a business and music major, how would transportation work? Do DePaul students get a pass for the L or for busses?
-How is campus/social life?
-How are my job prospects look after graduation?

I live about an hour away from DePaul’s Loop campus, and I will be taking a visit in a few weeks. I have a few other options (UIUC, Tulane, Boston U, Penn State…) that I am also looking at.

I would appreciate any feedback

Bump… And I noticed a mistake. How *do my job prospects look after graduation?

is there really no one with feedback?

I have a home in front of DePaul. My kids go to UIUC. Depaul is so expensive for a decent education but it is a bit of a commuter school. It also is in an upper class neighborhood so not a college town feel. Tons of bars and parks. Check it out, it is pretty. Your stats no issue at all getting in. No issue at all as safety.

They should be a bit generous with aid with your stats. I use their workout place which living in the area I joined. Rents will be expensive in the area to be close to school.

@glasssculpture I have family not too far away from there, and if I really wanted to, I could drive home every night. Money isn’t a problem; I already have some scholarship money from outside sources. Do you think that I should be fine in regards to getting into the Strobel’s Honors program?

Also, as a business major, I would be at the Loop campus, but going back to Hyde Park for my music major/minor. Do you know how the culture is over there, college wise? I spend a lot of time in the Loop, and I know SAIC, Northeastern Illinois, John Marshall, and Columbia are all right there, too.

Someone? Anyone?

Heyya:) I’m not a DePaul student but I’ve looked into it extensively (and was admitted recently!)
-Your ACT and GPA are higher than mine (30 and 3.8) so I would imagine you’ll be invited to apply for the Honors program. I imagine you’d be accepted, but a lot of it depends on your essays.
-At the info session I attended they said that there’s no reason why a student shouldn’t be able to finish a double major in four years. I wouldn’t say that’s entirely accurate, but the quarter system does make it easier to take more classes I believe. With a music major at any school, though, it’s extremely unlikely you’ll finish in four years, and DePaul’s music admissions’ counselor confirmed this with me when I visited.
-Included in DePaul’s tuition is a UPass, which is basically unlimited bus and train access. You could choose to live on either campus, and it’s set up so that errand you need to run can be done at either campus.
-The campus is more urban than most (Loop especially, but Lincoln Park as well), but there is some green space. I can’t speak for the social life, but it does seem active, considering it’s a big school in a big city.
-DePaul emphasizes internships and other real world experiences to help you gain skills for getting a job at graduation. They say “Chicago is our classroom” and any student will tell you that’s accurate. DePaul actually doesn’t have class on Fridays so that you have time to persue an internship if you choose. (Unless you’re a music major… sorry.) I don’t remember any specifics about job placement statistics but I imagine they’re relatively high.

Good luck in your search!

I’m responding a bit late, but I was admitted a few weeks ago and received the Presidential Scholarship and an invitation to apply to the Honors College. Your stats are higher than mine (a tad similar - 30 ACT, 2030 SAT, 3.47 UW/4.08 W, fantastic ECs, 6 APs in total) so I imagine you would receive an invitation for it as well

@wolfpride16 hi, when did you receive notification from Depaul? Did you apply EA? I’m an international and I applied EA. I haven’t received any notification yet :frowning:

@mpthuytien I received the email letting me know I was in November 25, and got my letter with financial aid about a week ago. I applied around November 10, I believe! Depaul’s website says that EA applicants will find out no later than January 15, so don’t lose hope

Hi everyone. I think I’m going to be committed to DePaul in a few weeks. Which residence hall is the best/nicest to live in?

Avoid Corcoran.
