Questions About Dorm Life

Hi everyone! I’m going to be a freshman in the fall and I have a few questions about dorm life, in particular the showering situation. I’m living in a hall so there are conjoined bathrooms. I don’t really mind this, but I do have a few questions.

  1. Where do you dry your towel when you get back to your dorm?
  2. Where do you put your shower shoes when you get back to your dorm? Do you leave them outside with your shower caddy? I have tile flooring in my dorm so I don’t want to get my floor all wet.
    Thank you!

I have a hook that I hung on the side of my desk – could also go in a closet. My last roommate used the coat hooks by the door.

You might want to bring a small rug anyway, since tile flooring usually looks kinda depressing and is cold in the winter. Then you can put your shower shoes on it. Would not advise leaving possessions anywhere but your room.

Another, cost free solution for shower shoes, or any wet shoes in general, is a piece of cardboard. That’s what I used in the winter for boots and stuff. Just make sure it’s at least two thick so it doesn’t bleed through. It also never got moldy or had mildew, at least in my experience. A rug or a shoe mat (a rubber one with edges) is also fine as suggested above.

If you have the space, a drying rack can be quite useful, both for towels and for laundry that shouldn’t go in the dryer. Some dorm rooms also have a bar on the door for drying towels.
