At my former institution, which was an art school, there was a fixed price for the semester for any student taking 12-18 units. The minute you hit below 12 or over 18, they would charge by the unit. Does this happen at most all schools? I only ask because that would severely limit those who are in financial need, because taking more than 18 units per semester would result in preventing financially needy student in double majoring?
Am I wrong?

If the school has a specific double major or dual degree combo, it is quite possible that those enrolled in those majors are given a higher than average max credit load, thus exempting them from the overload charges.

It is institution specific, and is a very pertinent question to ask before getting hit with "overload" charges.

So in general most schools tend to have a max credit load then?
