Questions about enrollment process...

If I am accepted on December 9th (i hope I will be!) what are the things I should do next? Are the admissions and housing deposit the same or would I need to pay them separately? Also, when I fill out FAFSA in january, how long till I get my financial aid package? And lastly, can I wait to send in the admissions deposit till I get my financial aid package or should I do it immediately? Sorry for all the questions...I just want to make sure I don't miss anything

You should try to pay the housing deposit as soon as you find out you’re accepted (that’s also one way to find out if you’re accepted a few hours early - you’ll have a $225(?) charge on your account for a housing deposit). You only have 10 days (or maybe it was less than that) to send it in from the time you apply or you’ll lose your priority number and have to start over again. I did mine the morning after admission decisions were out and my number was almost in the thousands… (though I did get into my first choice).
You’ll most likely find out your aid package around late March/early April. BUT it does change… a lot. Mine has changed at least 20 times (even after classes started this year) in the past few months. Lastly, if you have an EFC of 0, your admissions deposit will be waived IF you email admissions asking for an admission waiver. That will be confirmed and show up on your status check around the same time that your aid package is posted.

Dnerd: So the housing deposit has nothing to do with the admissions deposit? Is it two separate charges? Oh and with the changes to your financial aid-did they ever take away a significant amount of money that caused you to take out more loans? My EFC will be 0 so I need as much financial aid as I can get because I don’t want to take out any loans till my graduate studies…

Housing deposit is due immediately to save your priority number. Go on line starting at midnight and register for housing. Pay then with a credit card or mail a check TO ARRIVE WITHIN 10 days. If you are not 18, fax or mail the parent signature TO ARRIVE WITHIN 10 days. If the check or the signature is not there in 10 days YOU START OVER.

Tuition deposit is separate AND IS NOT DUE UNTIL MAY 1. You will get financial aid info without a tuition deposit. Once you are sure you want to go AND have $100 just get it in to hold a spot. If your EFC is $0 ask in writing (email) to have the deposit waived and they will do so, get the response in writing back.

You can start to look on your account the evening before midnight, between 5-7pm the tuition deposit may show as “due” if you are in, so some people know a few hours before others based on what has happened in the last 2-3 years.

At midnight, do not go on to the admissions site to check, IMMEDIATELY go to housing and start trying to sign all the way on. There are several steps. ONCE YOU SEE FALL 2011 and you can click it and have a registration form, YOU ARE ACCEPTED. Don’t waste time checking admissions. Check housing and get a number first. Then confirm on admissions sign in.

Financial aid changes every time you get an outside scholarship, or if bright futures funding changes. Lots of little changes. If you change your hours it changes. It is static. But your aid only goes down if there is a major change within the family income/status.

Yeah, they took away the majority of my grants, BUT that was usually only after a scholarship was applied. It really sucks though if you have an EFC of 0 and get one or two scholarships because they take that exact amount away from your grant money. They even took away all of my Spring aid because I had extra from Fall… So if you do go for the scholarship route, try to apply for at least 5 of them so it’s not all in vain. It was kind of saddening to get a “Changes to your financial award status have been made” email only to find that they took $501 away in grant money because I received a $500 scholarship…
