<p>My d took four years of h.s. spanish and had to take 1 quarter of spanish at erc. No big deal. Her ap chem got her out of any science and she took 1 q of math. Poli/sci major.</p>

The first part shows you how many units are assigned to each and then lower down it shows which courses you are exempt from.</p>
<p>@spatel23 The placement exam is a one time thing. Once you take it you HAVE to take the level of language you where placed into or higher. In my opinion, the proficiency exams are pretty easy. It consists of a 15 minute conversation with a native speaker of the language. I took mine for Russian and got my language requirement covered.</p>

<p>@operaticmimosa now my native language is Gujarati (which is in India)… but ERC offers Hindi as the “proficiency” exam… do you think it counts?</p>
<p>@spatel, the website says that if your language is not listed you should go see your college advising office. I’m sure they will be able to work something out, given that the purpose of the GE requirement is to give you proficiency in a language other than English not make you take 4 quarters of coursework not related to your major.</p>
