I just filled out the Fafsa for my youngest who will be entering college in Fall 2017. The form didn’t ask for any information about her siblings and if they are attending college. Did I mess this up? Thanks.
There are two questions about this. One is…how many people in your household? The other is about how many others will be attending college.
I don’t know the question numbers. @BelknapPoint
Also, @ACollegeFan how many people did you enter as being in your household ?
FAFSA question #73: How many people are in your parents’ household?
FAFSA question #74: How many people in your parents’ household (from question 73) will be college students between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018?
We have 5 in our household. Ok I must have missed question 74. How did I do that! Can I revise a Fafsa? Thanks for your help @thumper1 and @BelknapPoint
Yes, you can revise that fafsa…but you need to wait for it to process if you already submitted it.
Thanks @thumper1 I guess I’ll have to wait. So mad at myself for messing this thing up.
I’m surprised it let you submit with an unanswered question.
@BelknapPoint I don’t remember seeing the question at all. Just answered the one about how many are in our household. Maybe I accidentally put a number in there?? I guess I will see when I am able to go in and revise.
Are the other college students submitting FAFSA as well? Or are they independent and in grad school?
Grad students have their own FAFSA (household of 1) and aren’t counted as college students on your younger child’s FAFSA. You might not be able to count them in your household, either.
This is NOT uniformly true. You need to check with your second kid’s college to see their policies.
@mom2collegekids I haven’t filed a FAFSA for 2nd or 3rd kid. One is undergrad and one would be a graduate student (but he’s not independent). Do I need to file FAFSA for them if I’m not seeking financial aid for either of them?
You only file fafsa forms for students who are applying for financial aid.
<<<one would be a graduate student (but he’s not independent). <<<
Yes, he is independent. Once a student has a bachelors degree, he’s independent. Only he can file FAFSA…he’s independent.
How is he supporting himself and his education costs?
