So I know that AP credit can’t be used to get credits towards GEs, right?

Also, is it possible to take a class and have those credits fulfill categories in both topical breadth and core literacies? Example: Taking a history class to fulfill credits for both the social sciences requirement and also the civic+cultural literacy requirement.

I’m a science major, so will credit from my major-related courses apply to the scientific literacy GE?

I’m kind of confused and under-informed about GEs/courses in general. If there are any other helpful advice, please share!

A lot of classes fulfill more than one GE subject. For example, ANS 1 will fulfill the SciEng and Writing GEs. Art History 25 fulfills the GE for arts and humanties, visual literacy, world cultures, and writing experience. And yes, credit from your major choices will apply to scientific literacy GEs; it’s called “double dipping.”

1) AP units do not count towards GE requirements.

2) Yes, a class can count towards ONE topical breadth and ONE core literacy. The only exception is that the college composition courses cannot count towards topical breadth.

3) Yes, your major requirements will count towards General Education.

4) If you go to orientation, GEs will be explained thoroughly. It’s hard to explain them over text.
