Is Grinnell the best lac in America?
There is no such thing.
Not sure, but I believe that it is the best LAC in Iowa.
“the best LAC in america” is a very relative term. i mean, it is “the best LAC in america” to me, but i’m biased because i’m a member of the incoming class, lmao. out of all the LACs in the nation, grinnell is consistently ranked in the top 20 (honestly, if it was located on the east coast, i believe it would be in the top 10), so it’s doing something right.
grinnell is very diverse. i’m pretty sure the international student population is 23%. just in the two ED pools and the small percentage of regular decision applicants who were notified early, i’ve met a ton of kids from china, south america, and india in particular. the school is also incredibly socioeconomically diverse as well. 90% of kids receive some form of financial aid, and i think around ~20% of the student body receive the pell grant.
It’s in Iowa. Not terribly diverse.
@twoinanddone Being in Iowa would not make it diverse or not diverse. It’s not filled with kids from Iowa.
@twoinanddone grinnell is among the most diverse colleges in america… lol. being located in iowa has nothing to do with its level of diversity. only 9% of the student body come from iowa.
By my math, the odds of any two Grinnell students, chosen at random, being of different race, ethnicity, or domestic/international status, is 61%. The highest I’ve got on my spreadsheet (private, not-for-profit, four year schools, basically) is 77% (Stanford).
How diverse is grinnell?
would love to know more about it
I heard there was heavy drug usage
@Collegelove45 I heard there are people on this board who pass on unsubstantiated rumors without researching them.
Grinnell is very diverse for a LAC. It tries hard to get a diverse student body ethnically, geographically and income-wise. It’s a great school. Don’t fall for the rankings thing. Only you can decide what’s the best fit for you. In regards to the location, Grinnell Iowa, the town itself is not diverse.
