Questions about housing in Tower C

So I got my housing assignment today. I got placed in a single dorm in Tower C, which is totally not what I wanted, but whatever. Can't always get what you want.

Anyway, I had some questions about Tower C specifically. Its wiki says that certain floors are "Quiet Living Communities." A) What does that mean? B) How do I find out which floors are like this. I don't know, a quiet living community doesn't sound like much fun to me.

Also, I was just wondering if there's any way for me to get wireless connectivity in my dorm through the use of a router. I know that devices like that are prohibited in some schools. Is Pitt like that? It would just be such a hassle to have to use an ethernet cable all the time, and never have wi-fi on my phone or ipod.

My daughter lived in Tower C last year as a freshman and really liked it. Granted, it was her first choice, but she made many close friends there and will be living with them in her second year. The nice thing about Tower C is that all of the rooms are singles–everyone leaves their doors opens those first few days so that friends are made easier. Everyone is in the same boat.

Not sure about the quiet floors, however. She lived on Floor 13 and everyone was very respectful of each other.

Regarding Wifi–although everyone likes it, it’s just too spotty with some many people in one place (I’m sure Pitt could remedy this by putting more routers in place). My D ended up with a 25 ft ethernet cable (we brought this from home) and it worked out very well. The room is not big at all, so the 25ft cable allowed her to sit on the bed with her laptop, instead of just sitting at her desk.

A) It means that between certain hours (I think 11pm to 7am) on week nights you cannot make loud noise, play excessive music, etc. It’s to help people sleep/study during those hours. I think on the weekends, it’s a bit more lenient.

There should be a “lounge” on every third floor I believe. Those lounges have wifi in them. So if you live close to the lounge or above/below it you might be able to pick up signal. There’s also wifi in Towers Lobby. Your room won’t have wifi or any way for you to bring a modem (and if it did, it’s banned and you can get in trouble from your RA for having it). A long Ethernet cord should work fine. I don’t really see why you would need wifi on either device if you have your computer with internet anyway…
