Questions about IGETC

Do you have complete all the classes necessary for IGETC certification before the spring semester in which you'll receive your offer of admission from wherever you're transferring to? Or can your last couple of classes necessary for certification be in progress in the spring semester? I ask because I still have to take care of the "art" section of the "arts and humanities" requirement and I intend to take an art history class in spring to satisfy that requirement.

Also, do I need a speech class for IGETC certification? I heard that's only necessary for certification if you want to transfer to a CSU, but I'm a little confused about that. Thanks in advance.

You can have them in progress during spring. Don’t need speech for UCs, just for CSUs.

Great. Thanks!

I’m going to a UC next Fall but I’m being forced by my College to take a speech class so that I can get IGETC certified so that I can get an AA in my major.

My school dropped the AA in sociology (my major) in favor of the AA-T so I have no other option if I want to get an AA before transferring it’s ridiculous because it does absolutely nothing for students that want to go to a UC :/

And yeah IGETC doesn’t get certified usually until summer but if it’s in progress it’s all good.

Thanks, Matt4200!

And yeah, that sucks. Good luck with that…
