Questions about 'in-state'

Hello, i am a student at the University of Toronto, just finishing up my 2nd (Sophomore) year. I really wish to go to medical schools; i recently received a permanent residence (green card) in the US and am therefore am aiming for the American medical schools. I have the following questions:

What is an in-state residency? My parents moved to Virginia over a year ago (right after they got their green cards), does that mean i qualify as an 'in-state' resident even though i am doing my schooling in Toronto? If not, what does it take to qualify as an in-state resident?

Do ALL med schools prefer in-state residents as opposed to out-of-state residents?

Will being an 'in-state' or 'out-of-state' resident affect my eligibility to apply for a FAFSA loan?

What should, ideally be, the minimum and average gpa and MCAT requirement for out-of-state students?
