I'm wondering how much qualities (or your interview) can influence it. I mean it in the way that say you go to your interview, and you're diffident, stolid, etc. Ultimately, let's say the overarching theme of your interview was lackluster. How much would that affect your candidacy?
Also bringing it onto the opposite end of the spectrum, what if your interview goes spectacular? Say if you were very charismatic, and your interview remarks you as a very memorable candidate/interview, stating that you are a very charming person/best they've met, will this have a large impact?

Below is a chance me, feel free to ignore it.
Applying grade 10 for Exeter/Andover
93 SSAT percentile (not that high)
Good regional/nation EC's (National awards, etc.)
Awesome recommendations
Awesome interview
Asian and require full financial aid

Thanks in advance, I'm really curious about this!
Cheers.

Also, adding on, what if you live in an area (perhaps a small town) where your school board/uncontrollable environment prevents you from being able to participate from many extracurriculars? Is there a way to factor this into their consideration of you?

While the interview does have an impact on your admission I would not say it is necessarily a large one because there are many factors other than charisma that they take into consideration. I would say your chances are good and your SSAT score is not low it is very good. However you are applying to two of the most selective schools and I’m wondering if you have a “safety school” just in case. Not having extracurriculars may have some affect on your admission however I noticed you said your environment prevents you from doing some. In all honesty a boarding school such as Andover or Exeter may not accept that answer but I don’t know the extremity of the situation so it could go either way. One thing to keep in mind is you stated that you are Asian and from what I understand this is an ORM which puts you into a more competitive pool of applicants. Also the fact that you need full financial aid puts you into an even more competitive pool. I don’t know where you are from however this will have a small impact on admission as well. Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply! And I don’t come from a region that restricts me too much, it’s just a smaller place in Canada. I’ve never really been bummed about being Asian and not financially stable until now, :(, I’m glad these schools have large endowments! I do have safety schools but I’m not as concerned about admittance into them. As the proverb states, “Shoot for the moon, if you miss, you might land on the stars”. It’s also concerning because they only admit <~100 students into grade 10.

Well if its an under represented part of Canada you definitely have a little bit of a boost in your chances. I know how nervous you probably are as I am applying to Andover and other schools for 10th grade also. However like you said we have to be hopeful and shoot for the moon.

Ah! Someone who’s on my boat I hope you get in. How did your interview go at Andover? I really enjoyed the tour, and my interviewer was really nice.

An interview is a vehicle by which you can show them your quality that the numbers would not necessarily indicate. If you mess up the interview it could definitely hurt you.

If you need to justify one of your unfavourable numbers using interview well, it could definitely make up.

You should also try to get to know as much as possible if there is a strong fit between the schools and yourself during an interview. That is also what the school is looking for.
Iknow it is very hard for an applicant to get a good idea from a one-time interview and a tour. But at least you can give them an impression that you really want to see the fit and see what is needed for you to lead a successful life there. That is also how to defferentiate yourself from others. Best wishes!

93 on the SSAT is not “not that high”, it’s a FANTASTIC score and means that your are a person and not a machine. I think schools are suspicious of 99%ers, and tend to scrutinize their other categories of submission more carefully, which works against them. You sound like a good candidate.
