Questions about Labs

I am taking physics LC lab and chem1b lab. I was curious to know why are there finals in the class? Is it based off the labs itself or does it get incorporated in the class?

I am slightly worried now because each lab seems like to be a separate class now....

mm hmm. there are questions of free response and multiple choice and also a practical portion for some labs (Physics 3LB and Chem 1LB and Chem 1LC). things not convered in lab (such as lecture material in their concurrent courses ie. Physics 3LB vs Physics 3B) are not tested. each lab section seems like a new topic, but yeah, that’s lab for ya.

so study the reason behind doing things in lab (specific reasons behind procedures), lab concepts, and how to calculate things given measured values.

I can’t really say much about the physics lab but, I’ve TA’d for the Chem 1LC before which I hear is pretty similar to Chem 1LB. The final is int he form of a lab practical in which you’ll be given a couple mini experiments to do (possibly including spartan!) based upon the labs you’ve completed during the quarter and a sample data set in which you have to be able to analyze. The reason we give the lab practicals are to be sure that you actually learned something in the lab and didn’t let your lab partner(s) do all the work.

Chem LB has a practical during week 10 or so. Basically you have half your class period to preform some “mini” labs. It can make or break you.
