Questions about Lecture and Discussion

So I think I've asked this question before but it was never definitively answered.

I was assigned Math 191 for lec:MWF and dis:TR at 9:05 (the same section).

However, ENGRI112 is only offered lec:TR at 9:05.
I wouldn't mind having my Math lec at this time and on those days, but I would much rather take ENGRI112 and have my dis for Math at some other time.

Can I have say, the lecture section 7, but the discussion not the same section?

Just wondering if the lecture and discussion have to be bound together.

No, you can keep the lecture you have and switch the discussion section to another time slot that is offered. (provided there is another one).

For almost all classes at Cornell you can do things like that. However, at least back when I took it, you were “required” to be in the same lecture/section for Math 191/192 (you can always sign up for one and go to another…most profs won’t care). I don’t know if this has changed in the past 3 years.
