Ive heard a lot of things about life at Rice, so for any current students i have a few questions:

How does Rice’s small size and college system affect social life? Ive heard that the colleges make the university of about 3,000 seem even smaller (like 200 ppl) and that you only hang out with people in your college

How is life in Texas?

Are the academics so hard that most people spend all their free time studying?

There are actually closer to 350 people in each college, but that certainly doesn't limit you to being friends with only those people! You are strongly encouraged to make friends outside of your own college (it's just a little bit easier to make friends with fellow college members)

Couldn't tell ya. Rice is very un-Texas seeming (and I'm from upstate NY). If you plan on spending most of your time off-campus, I would say that the Houston culture is very friendly and has good food.

Very few people spend "all their free time" studying. The academics are challenging, but we're smart people! We get our work done and have lots of time to party/play sports/watch movies/go out/streak (although more often than not these things happen before the work gets done, but as long as it's all finished eventually...)
