Can anyone get into the Crown ACE program or just students from Crown?
Secondly, I read the posts and some said they were assigned a tripple, small triple, etc.
perticularly at Crown. Does that mean they automatically get assigned a tripple room, even if they only wanted a double?

Personally, I liked 9 and 10 from what I know and see :). Theres a mix of the college life “partying and the usual stuff with it” but still people study :). Also newest facility :P.

ACE is Crown-only. My roommate is in the program and really, really enjoys the extra help she gets. It’s the difference between a teacher’s assistant that has to take on 20-30 people or a tutor who works closely with smaller groups.

I was told by the housing people that there will be no small triples at Crown next year. Even this year, when they converted about 1/4th of the doubles to small triples, many of the small triples only housed two people. They overestimated the number of people they would need to house, I guess.

I heard that all you can eat is junk food and no healthy/veggie meals are availible? My friend gained 10 pounds during her first year!!
This question is not really limited to UCSC.

Completely false. While pizza/burgers are available from lunch to dinner in most dining halls, they also have daily entrees that are much more healthy. UCSC is very good about catering to vegans and vegetarians.

Believe me, it takes effort to gain 10 pounds your first year. You’ll be doing a lot of walking.

So I just found out I’m living on the Sustainability floor of my house (stevenson). I didn’t request it, but whatever. Does anyone know what I’m getting into here?

Heya! So, I was wondering-- does Santa Cruz have any automatic schedule generating websites?

For example, Berkeley has Ninjacourses/esc. There’s also courserank for viewing class grade distributions and reviews of classes. You can say what classes you want to take and it shows you all possible permutations of different schedules you can register for.

Hi! how long does it take to get from one class to another? for example like from physical science to social science. would 15- 20 min be enough time?

It really depends on what class. Physical science to social science is basically walking uphill from science hill to college 9/10, but it’s not bad at all. It will probably take you around 10-15 mins to get there.

Can I ask about what kind of equipment the gym at UCSC has?
Like I know that there is a pool but is there an extensive weight room, cardio machines, stretching/ab room, etc. ?
Also I was wondering about if alot of people actually go to the gym… or is there never people working out?

The gym at UCSC is actually pretty good. They basically have all the machines that you will see at a normal gym. There are several ellipticals, treadmills, step machines, bikes, and others. There is also a small area where you can stretch or do floor exercises (usually did my ab work outs there). The best thing is that a lot of these machines face the field and it’s really a great view. Nothing beats a nice, cold breeze while running up a sweat.

There may be a LOT of people depending on what time you go. I used to go at 8am for my freshman year and it was probably half-full. Then for my soph year, I used to go right before closing and it’s pretty full. You’ll soon find out what hours are peak hours and what not when you start going at random times. Just pick a time that best suits you and you’ll be fine.

MidnightGolfer,
you mentioned that there was several cardio machines but I’m more interested in the actual weight room… is there a decent dumbell rack? barbells, benches, etc.
I’m much more a fan of free weights than machines

There aren’t really separate ‘rooms’ at the gym, there’s the top floor and the bottom floor and they both have weights and cardio machines.

There is a wall full of free weights and a few benches I believe. There are plenty of weights but, as I recall, the area with the free weights isn’t very big. I’d say it’s adequate, though.
