Questions about LSP

I applied to CAS ED 1 and I have a feeling that I will be put into LSP. So, can you get out of LSP and transfer to CAS freshman year?
I will be studying econ and I feel that LSP will make it hard to graduate as a econ major and get all the credits.
Is it possible to get out of LSP even before the school year starts?
or can you transfer out of LSP after freshman year without having to take LSP classes sophomore year?

NYU Freshman here.
Generally, people cannot transfer out of LSP until the end of Sophomore year. That being said, you can absolutely major in econ while still being in the LSP program (I know someone who is doing it). Freshman year you will only be able to take 1 or 2 courses related to your desired major (the other 3 courses are predetermined and run through LSP). Sophomore year however, you have 3 electives per semester, so you’ll have more flexibility in determining your schedule (though you’ll still have some LSP requirements to fulfill through electives which are similar to the ones you would have had in CAS anyway).
As long as you plan your schedule out as early as possible, accounting for all the prereqs (I’m an econ major, there are ALOT of them), you’ll be fine.
The only caveat is that it may mess with your study abroad. As of now, certain required upper-level econ courses are only offered in London, so if you want to go to say Florence or Buenos Aires, you may be disappointed. Other then that though, you’ll be okay doing Econ through LSP.

Hi,
I’m actually a freshman at NYU IN LSP. You cannot transfer out until the two years is over. And according to my academic advisor, there’s no leeway… I went in to ask her about it and she cut me off mid-sentence and told me it’s not possible.

So, basically… you just have to deal with the two years and try to crunch in as many credits as you can within those two years. As @zackattack341 stated, there’s SOME opportunity to get in those electives. Freshman year is pretty straight-forward, one elective per semester. Sophomore year, you can take 3 electives per semester. Also, I think you can study abroad within the two years if you want to study abroad somewhere other than London, maybe.

I’m not sure because I’m not much interested in studying abroad.

But, anyway, you never know - you might get into CAS. Just wait and see!

May I ask what is the chance of transferring to Stern after two years if LSP? It is really hard, like almost impossible, or it’s just really competitive that you’ll have to perform extremely well in the first 2 years?
And what electives will actually aid that dream to come true? Are there finance electives?

Interesting, I’ve been looking into going to Stern too. Lol.

It’s REALLY hard. Naturally, it’s competitive because Stern is a really good business school. But to transfer junior year, you have to have certain classes so the majority of your classes sophomore year would be things like Stats, Fin. Acct., Econ., (Calc if you have to take it and aren’t taking it freshman year for one reason or another).

SCREW ELECTIVES! TAKE AS MANY STERN REQUIREMENTS AS YOU CAN.
