I'm thinking about applying to McGill for the Fall 2010 semester, but I have some questions: About how much will it cost for an American citizen to study physics (including housing and meal costs)? How good is McGill's physics department? Is it possible to double major? Is there a core curriculum (If there is no core, is there room to take classes outside of one's major?)? Is it easy to get a single room as a freshman? What are the average class sizes? Are the majority of students really drinking and party prone?

Thanks in advance for the responses!

Two more questions, sorry : I’m retaking my SAT and SAT IIs, so should I wait to apply until I get the results to these tests or can I just update my scores as I receive them? And do I have to send an official transcript of my AP scores with my application or do I only do that if I get accepted?

Errr, I can only answer some of your questions…

About how much will it cost for an American citizen to study physics (including housing and meal costs)?
On-campus room and board ranges from CDN$7500 to $12000. For fees, health insurance, books and misc. expenses, McGill recommends budgeting $4500. Science tuition is about $23000 - $8000 more than Arts tuition! - so your total would be from CDN$35000 to $39500. At current US exchange rates, this means from $32500 to $36700.
Is it possible to double major?
It is possible to double major, but I don’t think you can major across faculties. So, you could major in bio and physics but not physics and poli sci. There are certain interfaculty BA&Sc programs, and there is a “Science for Arts Students” minor.

Is there a core curriculum (If there is no core, is there room to take classes outside of one’s major?)?
This is the current Science core: [B.Sc. Freshman Program](http://www.mcgill.ca/science/sousa/bsc/freshman/require/) As I’m in Arts, I’m not familiar with the Science U0 program, but I’m fairly certain it leaves a lot of space. (Arts requires six credits from three of four sections, or the special en fran
