Questions about MHA (Masters of Health Administration) program and Accreditation

Hello all,

This is my first post and there is a lot of good information on these boards!! So thank you in advance!!

I need some help figuring out if I should enter into a MHA (masters of health administration). The problem I have is that the program itself is not accredited by CAHME, although the university is accredited by North Central Association.

If the program is not accredited is it pretty much worthless? Will I have a tough time finding a job in a hospital, etc.?

There are so many MHA programs out there from decent schools and only a minority are accredited by CAHME.

Any advice would help ...thanks!

Which school are you considering?

For the programs you are considering, find out what type of jobs they received after (if a job at all), how long it took, etc.

Find out if they used to be accredited by whomever and if that changed recently. That would be a pretty good indication of whether the program is declining in value and reputation or not.

It is A.T. Still University. Its online and on campus and its near to me. I was just hoping it would work out maybe.

I do not think they have been accredited for the MHA program but their PA program is accredited.

Is there any reason why you cannot attend an accredited, campus university? Do NOT apply to unaccredited programs.

Well to be honest, my gpa sucked when I graduated from Saint Louis University, but I have my reasons. One being my father having a kidney disease and further getting a transplant. It really weighed heavily on me....

But that aside, I know I can do better because I was a very good student in high school and at the beginning of college before all the stuff with my father happened.

There’s a 1 year MHA program at Dartmouth College that I am interested in applying to, but its not accredited by CAHME (because its only one year and doesn’t include the residency). Would this be wise? The program is academically rigorous and has the Dartmouth name.

Only attend accredited programs. Accreditation is much more important career-wise.
