Hey everyone…
I’m starting to finalize my list of colleges and I was wondering if any of the current students could answer the following questions??

How is the intramural program? Do a lot of kids participate?

How would you rate the campus beauty?

On the scale of 1-10 how would you rate your teachers, as in availability and such?

How do you like the city of Ann Arbor?

1-10 party school…one being dry 10 being absolutly crazy

How is the student body support toward sports teams?
7 Your overall expierence so far? 1-10

On a scale of 1-10, I'd say the campus is a 9, just because there are many other schools that are, in my opinion even more beautiful, like Madison, UVA, UNC, Ithaca. Ann Arbor really is an awesome, unique city. There are so many amazing restaurants and fun things to do

I'd say the party scene is an 8, most people party thursdays, fridays, and saturdays and it is definitely not a dry campus, although I've seen several people get caught for drinking, so you have to watch out. This school really abides by the 'work hard, play hard' mantra. During the week everyone studies like crazy and then goes out on the weekends. But, definitely, the school work here can be a bit overwhelming and you have to manage your time extremely well.

The teachers always have office hours every week, but they tend to get crowded especially for big lectures. I have found all of my teachers to be very helpful in general. The GSI's are all very helpful as well.

Intramural program here is huge...and VERY competitive. At such a big school most IM participants were probably Varsity starters in their respective sports. I'm doing IM basketall...it's great fun. We finally got our first win today. In fact, so many people signed up for b-ball that we got placed into the Graduate Student/Faculty league(I'm a freshman).

The campus here is great. Really pretty and lots to do. Weather kinda stinks here. It's sunny one minute and raining the next. But what to do?

Teachers are always available during their office hours. All teachers are mandated to have them so they'll always be available during those times.

Ann Arbor is a great campus town. I don't think you can beat it. Probably one of the best in the coutry, if not the best. It was ranked in the top 25 Greatest Places to Live in America by some survey.

Plenty of drinking here. I'd say 3.

Student body toward sports teams...one of the biggest factors in chosing colleges for me was school spirit. You cannot beat Michigan. Whether it's football, volleyball, soccer, ice hockey, or basketball, Michigan fans are the best. GO BLUE!

I'm loving it here. Lot's of time to do your work and do what you want. 10, hands down.

Dvlfn..... Spirit and intrmurals are so important to me too.... I'm a 2 sport varsity playa... but I'm not good enough to play D1.. and the last thing I want to do is go to a TINY d3 school...............so the athletic part is really important to me.. that's good to hear that it is such a big deal at UM... he if you dont mind.. telling me your stats that got you into to UM...I dont think I will be able to get in... and im gettn really nervous

Definitely have to agree with dvlfnfv5. Intramurals are really competetive. All 4 of the guys on my 3 on 3 bball team were varsity players in high school and we're still 0-2!

In regards to school spirit, I'd have to say that the only collegiate experience in the country that beats Michigan football is probably Duke basketball. (Cameron Crazies really are crazy.)

How is the intramural program? Do a lot of kids participate?
The Intermural program is extremely active. Everything from Boxing to Rugby. And yes,a lot of students participate.

How would you rate the campus beauty?
Michigan's campus is not as beautiful as it is impressive. Yes, it is a nice campus, but it is not pretty as such. However, there is nothing ugly about Michigan's campus either. It is a nicely designed and well maintained campus with lots of green areas and nice architecture. Some parts of the campus are actually breathtaking, like the the areas around the Clock Tower, the Law quad or the Hospital. I understand the new B school is going to be out of this world. All in all, I would give the Michigan campus a 9/10 rating.

On the scale of 1-10 how would you rate your teachers, as in availability and such?
Michigan's professors are excellent and contrary to the myth surrounding the professors at major research universities, they are approachable and caring. Of course, in terms of teaching quality, some are better than others. All in all, from my personal experience, I would give Michigan programs an 9/10 rating.

How do you like the city of Ann Arbor?
Ann Arbor is a perfect college town. It really has everything. Good and diverse restaurants, multitudes of quaint and funky streets, stores, cafes and bookstores etc... There is a decent mall, good movie theaters showing everything from the newest popular releases to the more quirky indy films and amazing night spots with a very respectable music scene. Ann Arbor itself is located roughly 20-30 minutes away from the Detroit metropolitan Airport, which has direct flights to most major European, North American, South American and Asian cities. Furthermore, Ann Arbor is only 40-50 minutes away from every major Detroit landmark, be it the incredible malls in Troy and Dearborn or the happening night spots scattered around the city. For those who really never want to leave Ann Arbor, you can always land a job with a bunch of companies headquartered in or around Ann Arbor, including Borders, Domino's, Pfizer Research, Toyota North America, Kellogg, the Big 3 and coming soon, Google. And then, you have sports. Detroit provides the always exciting Red Wings and Pistons...and now the emerging Tigers. Ann Arbor has Wolverine sports which are also awesome. I'd give Ann Arbor a 10/10 rating.

1-10 party school....one being dry 10 being absolutly crazy
Michigan is not a party school, but given its size, you will probably be able to find a party any time you look! 6-7/10

How is the student body support toward sports teams?
Michigan students are generally rabid supporters of their Wolverines. 10/10.

7 Your overall expierence so far? 1-10
Well, I already graduated, but if I were to give my experience at Michigan a rating, it would definitely get a perfect 10!

How is the intramural program? Do a lot of kids participate?

I'm not in it but it certainly seems so, there's a ton of teams out there and the basketball courts get taken a lot at the IMB because of IM.

How would you rate the campus beauty?

Extremely high. It's one of the best looking campuses in the nation. It's really eclectic so don't expect a single unified style, but there's really everything. Old school oxford-like architecture in the law quad, modern building up on north and everything in between. It really is impressive.

On the scale of 1-10 how would you rate your teachers, as in availability and such?

I can't really say because I haven't really been going to office hours, but they seem available most of the time.

How do you like the city of Ann Arbor?

Love it. One of the best college cities around.

1-10 party school....one being dry 10 being absolutly crazy

Don't know only went to a couple parties.

How is the student body support toward sports teams?

Support is really good, go to the football games.

seems like plenty of people have responded already but i'll comment on office hours. every proffessor and gsi has a few set office hours that are always there. it is only like 3 hours a week and it is often inconvenient. that said, everyone is happy to meet with you another time. One of my proffessors told me that even though her offices hours are only 1-3 twice a week that she is really in there all afternoon, 4 days a week and that I can come by any time. If you want to meet with a proffesor it's never a problem, they're just a quick email away.

Michigan's campus is definitely improving over time. The University is constantly renovating and beautifying. When I first got to Michigan, I would have given Michigan's campus a rating of 7.5/10. Today, it is more like a 9. The one thing I wish they would improve is the landscaping. Michigan should hire a landscape architecture geius to make the most of our greenery. That and the LSA building. It is one ugly building! LOL!!! Otherwise, the campus is almost perfect. Like I said, it is not a pretty campus, but it is definitely impressive.

Wow... all of your comments make me even more interested
This comments really help... because I dont have the financial funds to fly all the way out to ann arbor to see the campus.....
