Questions about move-in

I start at UF in the fall (super duper excited) and I just had a few questions about moving in...
1. The first day we can move in is August 17th, a Wednesday, at 9 AM. Would you say this is the best time to move in, like the earlier the better? I'm just wondering if there will be cool dorm activities or if an earlier day would be less busy for traffic and moving my stuff.

If I were to move in on that Wednesday, classes don't start until the coming Monday. So what do I do for almost a week?? I only have a few friends going to UF, and they can't make it up to Gainesville until the weekend, so I'll have nobody to hang out. I have no idea what to do between move in and the first day of classes.

move in is by last name for freshman

Not according to UF…you can move in 9AM on August 17th, whenever you want bro

Not to steal your thread, but I figure I may as well ask a “move in question” here:

If we do summer, move in & bring all our stuff to campus then when we move out in early August do we have to bring EVERYTHING home for 2 weeks then bring it back to campus go move in for fall? Or is there a place you can store for 2 weeks?

When do meal plans start? Really don’t wanna move in and find that my meal plan isn’t activated until the first day of classes or something.

Did no one else get this message?:

@OP: go in on the second day, probably in the evening if you’re allowed. either way it will be crowded. as for what to do after moving in: some people find that period pretty boring. i’m not one of those people–i think its the best week of the whole semester. especially if its your first time living by yourself. you have a week of complete and absolute independence with very few responsibilities. if you want to party, thats the week to do it. you should meet new people during this time, or do a bunch of exploring with anyone you might know. or by yourself. i loved how much it made me feel like an adult. my first week was definitely one of the most memorable periods of my time at UF so far. but i might just be a little weird in that respect.

just know that when school starts, your week without responsibilities is over.

edit: i guess some of my information has been nullified by umcane.

@alittlemonster: i’m pretty sure they start working the day the dorms open. the dining hall’s #1 priority is feeding on-campus residents.

@spazoo where did you get your information from? I got the same information as the poster above…

My mistake, I missed the link in the email that gives the times by last name.
I still don’t know what I’ll do until classes start though!

whatever the **** you want to. have fun and buy school supplies.

Umcane: Are you sure move in is by last name because my last name is C-D which means I should be able to move in from 11:00-1:00pm, but when UF sent me the email telling me when I could move in, mine was from 7-10pm. My Roomie has a later last name than mine, and she is able to move in before me.

The message I posted above was the exact message that UF sent me regarding move in.

Alright, thanks.I see my Roomies time to room up there but not mine :P, but they said it was the correct time. 7pm-10pm. I’d much rather move in while it was day out but oh well.
