Our son had the "empty" move-in time error last night that some of you mentioned on other threads: "Your move-in time is -- "

Today we were assigned Saturday morning, but it looks like most people move in on Friday? So we were thinking of moving in Friday night after 9 pm, because they say you don't need an appointment if you come after 9.

If you go after 9 pm are there still people to help show you where to go?

Also, our son didn't go to orientation. Does he need to pick up his BruinCard before anything else, or what? Isn't that how he gets meals etc.? Where/when can you pick that up? Would that be available Friday night? (I'm guessing no.)

There will still be some people showing you your way after 9, but probably not after 11. However, you can just ask the students around if you are having trouble locating your hall/room after you check in at the front desk.

It’s better if your son can get his bruin card before he check in (I’m not sure if they will let you check in w/o your bruin card.) And yes, he needs his bruin card for meal (and meal plan is activated on his bruin card when he checks in.) Also, you need your bruin card to get into your building. So ya, it is quite inconvenient to move in w/o your bruin card.

Bruin card center is located in Kerckhoff Hall, and it opens from Mon-Fri, 9-4. You can submit a photo online and then you present your photo ID to the staff there, then you can get your bruin card in a few minutes. However, they can also take photo for you on spot.

Thanks for the info slft0215 and UCLAParent! I was wondering how the BruinCard thing would work – it does sound very inconvenient. We sent them a photo back in June. It would be inconvenient to go there an pick it up except on a weekend when I’m guessing it’s closed. :/

If you want to move in earlier in the day than you originally wanted, and those move-in times are currently full, what happens if you just show up a few hours beforehand? Will they still let you move in then?

Are you sure you want to move in at night? I found that moving in during the day was a lot better just because things were more lively. The night seemed to take away some of that “hello college, bye family” moments, at least from what I experienced.

I too moved in on a Friday night when I was a freshman.

Last year I moved in earlier that my move in time, but earlier by a few hours, not a day early. I’m pretty sure the only thing that would prevent you from moving in is the parking. You should have a page to print out for your “parking pass”, which will say the day and time to move in. Last year they didn’t check these, and someone has to wait with the car anyways, so if there is an issue it’s not like you’ll get a parking ticket. Although, if the time you go is very crowded, they may be more strict about the day and time on the pass. Good luck!

Yea i was scheduled for 10 am but showed up at 8 am, which was ok at the time since it was so early… not many people were crowding up the lot at de neve.
