<p>A couple more questions: are we allowed to bring over-the-door mirrors? Also, are vacuum(s) provided on each floor for people to share, or should we bring our own? (I'll be in JJ.) Are lamps and shelves provided in each room, and if so, how much storage space is in the shelves? Thanks so much.</p>

<p>wrong....if you complain that there isn't enough lighting in your room in JJ they will give you a lamp...or so they say. I would def suggest getting a floor lamp though...if you live far away just wait till you get here to buy one. </p>

<p>A pickier question. If you're expected to check in first, where do you park? Or are my parents supposed to unload while I'm checking in? (Or should they just circle the block a couple times and curse the lack of parking?)</p>
<p>Also, from your experience (and experience of friends), is stuff easily lost on move-in day? Lastly, how much is too much stuff? (Let's say I'll have enough boxes for the back of an SUV and maybe a little more.)</p>

<p>OK, let me reiterate for Demeter: the biggest day of crime all year is move-in day. People who look like parents but are actually thieves will slip past security and go room to room swiping stuff. Effing lock your door and be damn careful at all times. They don't tell you this stuff anywhere else.</p>
<p>As for parking, they block 114th st off and use it as temp parking for people who are unloading.</p>
<p>Most people bring too much stuff, and end up sending things home at thanksgiving. You have a standing armoire, a 3-drawer bureau, a desk with 3 drawers, and the space under your bed. that's it.</p>
<p>one thing people don't think to bring is wall decorations or other decor for the room. sort it out with your roommate if you have one, but that's something you can think about beforehand and save yourself time and money during the start of the year.</p>
<p>there are other threads on this board for "what to bring / what not to bring". check those out for further tips.</p>
<p>Confidentialcoll, I hope not. I have two big cardboard boxes and a couple of underbed storage bins. I'll also have some trash bags full of clothes. Oh yeah, and the mini-fridge. But I guess when I say "only," upperclassmen will say "crapload of stuff."</p>

<p>Oh, lastly. Are there mirrors in Carman? As in, floor length mirrors?</p>
<p>if i remember correctly they also let cars onto college walk for freshman move-in and let you unload there.</p>
<p>JJ does not have the armoirs, but it does have a closet. I think most dorm rooms have a mirror, usually hung on the back of one of the doors--it's not quite floor-length, more like 1 ft by 4-ish ft.</p>
<p>Thanks, guys. Since my family will be staying overnight, we're going to go check out the campus and figure out a game plan.</p>
<p>And I'm going to try cutting down on the number of boxes. I hope move-in won't be like this every year.</p>
<p>move-in gets much easier from year to year and i would suggest your parents not spend too much time "figuring out a game plan" because the next day the NSOP crew will have everything set up the facilitate move-in given the ridiculous numbers....though, people from the tri state area have historically gotten to move in a day or so earlier than others so if u go THAT day (whichever day that may be) you'd be able to see exactly how things will function.</p>
<p>Yep, we're going to be staying in NYC on the early move-in day, so that's a good idea.</p>
