Questions about NMSF

Hi CC, I've been reading about NMSF around the forums a bit, and had some questions.

I live in FL.
PSAT:215(last year's cutoff for NMSF=211)
SAT:2020
unweighted GPA:3.48
Weighted: 4.36

1) I've received the letter for commended status, but to qualify for NMSF, is my GPA/SAT score taken into account? If so, is it too late to retake the SAT/improve my GPA before NMSF letters are sent out?

2) Similar question..do the requirements change from NMSF=>NMF? Is GPA/SAT taken into account? Curious about this one, as i think about 15,000 out of 16,000 NMSF's become NMF's.

3) If anyone knows, does U of Florida(school i'm most likely going to), or U of Miami(2nd choice) give decent scholarships for NMSF/NMF's?

As I understand it, getting to NMSF is just based on making the state cut-off.

Your grade point does affect making NMF, but I think yours looks OK. According to this forum, your SAT should be OK as well. You just have to make sure you follow the directions you get for the NMF application and also make sure you report your SAT score to NM org. I think they should be sending out the packets to NMSFs’ schools at the end of August

I think UCF and USF offer good NMF packages, but I don’t think the two you mentioned do.

Good Luck!

1) Your PSAT score is the only criteria to qualify you to NMSF. 2) Your GPA and SAT score will be taken into consideration from NMSF to NMF. You are fine with both counts. 3) There are many schools that give good NMF packages. You shall do some research in this area and keep an open mind. Congratulations.

UF does NOT offer great packages to NMFs. They used to years ago, but stopped.

It doesn’t look like UMiami does either.

Bummer about UF/UM. Thanks for the info :)

Congratulations VPOL, I just learned from our GC that the “cut-off” for FL is 214.
So you are a NMSF. Congratulations!!

I think you are probably referring to the letter NMSC sends in April to the top 50,000 scorers. It identifies you as having earned either Commended or NMSF status. Since you apparently have qualified as NMSF, you are not a Commended student, a designation that applies to those top-scorers who do not qualify as NMSF.

great news guys!!! thanks!! :)
