Ok ill try to explain this situation the best i can...I come from a really small independent school in Kentucky (around 200 students in the high school)...anyways, if students want to take AP courses they must all be done online...

I know alot of people on this website come from larger schools where AP is offered as a normal class...but i know there has to be some who did their AP online...so as far as online AP im just looking to know the basics....

*Difficulty?
*Time Devoted?
*Online scoring ( how do you recieve your grade??? )
*Exam Taking?

All help would be highly apprieciated...thanks

It really depends on what online service. I'm taking AP Psych with apex, and it sucks. It's actually making me HATE psychology, a subject that I like.

FLVS is a really good and they have one of the highest passing rates. Although, you are going to have to pay if you are outside of Florida like about $800 per class.

I'd recommend taking an online college course which will probably prepare you for the AP exam anyway.. You could take a course online at Columbia College for approx $600.. Apex will probably charge you the same. By takign it at Columbia, you can get college credit and it'd look good on your college application..

I used Northwestern Learning Links and it was ok for Calc. The tests were probably of medium difficulty as were the assignments (which were not graded.) I tried to do about 3 hours per week, but I found myself cramming a lot the week of the test, since all of the study is self-directed. In order to get a grade you could fax or mail the test to the instructor and he would send you a pretty detailed score report a day or so later, sometimes the same day. As for taking the test, he emails them to a designated proctor that you choose before the course starts (usually a teacher at your school) and they administer all of the exams. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

it stands for kentucky virtual highschool...hopefully itll be decent...im taking AP english and AP Biology this year as a junior...i might take AP micro or macro since everyone on here talked about how easy its exam was....i dunno though

ive got a meeting with the superintendent at 1 tommarow to get me set up online...hopefully itll go well

Apex suck? I though the psychology book for Apex learning was loaded with excellent info.

I took 4 AP's through Apex learning, I received a B+ in my first class and all As thereafter.

All Apex Learning courses, except for AP Calculus AB, AP Physics B, AP Statistics, AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics (see below):

90-100%

= A

80-89%

= B

70-79%

= C

60-69%

= D

Below 60%

= E

AP Calculus AB, AP Physics B, AP Statistics, AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics:

85-100%

= A

75-84%

= B

65-74%

= C

55-64%

= D

Below 55%

= E

The explanations and assignments, most quizes (can use books, whatever resource), and discussions are quite easy. Tests can be difficult depending on what class one enrolls. The economics tests are like SAT subject tests, which are timed, 30 question for 30 mins, and writing portion for every test in every class. Extra credit is given out sometimes, depending on which teacher one would have.

Difficult: AP course in real class I would give 6-7 in difficult. AP course online, I would give 6-8 in defficult (out of 10). It really depends what class one would enroll, but government and psychology is fairly easy online.

Personally, I have found that many online AP classes do not prepare students for the AP exam as well as physical classes would. If the goal is to simply take the AP and have the AP on your transcript then I would not worry. If it is to get a 5 and gain college credit, then...but that shouldnt really be the goal of an AP class anyway. :)

As a side note, Do Not Take AP Calculus Online!!!!!!! But any class that deals with more specific facts, like english or history, will be very managable, if you have the work ethic.

otherwise, the rest of us, we just buy cheap ref books, study them for 2-3 months before a test and still score a 5 without wasting much time (school ap classes) and money... besides still having the zeal for learning more (eg sourcing the net for info... :) )

Doesn't it look really good to take the online course, instead of just self-studying, it shows colleges that u are motivated to do well outside of the classroom.
