Hey, I don’t know the answers to your questions, but I think this site will be really good for you! **************.com If you search pepperdine in the search box it will come up. It’s a great site with a lot of facts and student reviews(:

It won’t let me post the link , but the website is college *******

the starred word is prow.ler

Pepperdine was voted number 1 on Princeton Reviews" Most beautiful campuses". It located right on the beach. I’m not going to say Malibu is extremely safe, but it’s safer than most of LA county. In Malibu you have the beach, and a ton of malls +LAX is close. Hollywood is nearby, LA is all around you. Since this is LA there are plenty of public buses that you can take. I heard their journalism program was really good.

Umm you do know this is a Christian school right? They are pretty serious about it to. That’s not a bad thing unless you aren’t seriously Christian.
Just a note it was also voted the number one worst party school too.
Very beautiful campus though but it is quite expensive, If you watch Zoey 101, that’s pepperdine right there, they filmed on the campus.
Good luck.

I’m a current Pepperdine student, let me see if I can answer your questions:

1) what is it like to live on campus. how’s the housing and all?
Housing is excellent, there’s a variety of options from suite style to apartments on campus. All freshmen live in suite style houses in one central area. Dining service is great, although some students complain that it is too repetitive and would appreciate more variety. Overall, there’s a great sense of community on the campus.

2) do i need a car to get around malibu? how’s the public transport?
Most students would agree a car is a huge asset. There are public buses and Pepperdine provides shuttles around town, but it’s still much better to have a car. Many people who didn’t bring their car first semester brought it from across the country second semester.

3) is it safe in malibu?
Very. Pepperdine’s Department of Public Safety is excellent, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, who provides law enforcement to Malibu, is one of the best police forces in the nation. Malibu isn’t a large city and doesn’t have a real downtown, so many of the urban crime concerns don’t exist there.

4) what are some of the things in malibu that you can do during your free time ?
Malibu isn’t the most exciting place in the world. The beach is a big attraction, and many students spend plenty of them there. Be aware Pepperdine is not actually on the beach, so you will still need a car to get there. There’s plenty of decent restaurants, a frozen yogurt place, and on the weekends, house parties. Many students prefer to frequent Santa Monica or Calabasas instead though, both of which are about 20min away.

5) high/low living expenses?
Malibu’s expensive. If you can get an on-campus job, I’d highly recommend it. Off campus food is expensive, and most services just generally cost more. There also are very few “chains”, as Malibu has strict regulation on that subject.

6) i’m extremely interested in the broadcasting journalism program, how good is it?
I’ve heard it’s very good, I can’t speak personally to it though. Of the students I’ve met who are involved with it, they take their work seriously.

In regards to the last post and the religious aspects, yes Pepperdine is a Christian school, but it’s not overwhelming and most people are not overly religious. Some classes open with prayer and you have to attend fourteen chapels/Convocations a month, but that’s really the extent of the Christian influence.

Good luck!
