I have been preparing for the new sat and I there aren’t a lot of prep materials. I have been considering preparing for the ACT as there are a lot more review materials.
I had a couple of questions regarding the ACT:
Are the old tests ( from maybe 5 yrs ago) still valid? Are the recent changes in the ACT significant enough to deem these test not as useful?
What are the best prep materials, books, or courses for the ACT?
Should I go ahead prepare for both the SAT and the ACT?
Whoops screwed up the title
Prepare for both the SAT and ACT if you have enough time to, it will give you two scores to go off of, in case you happen to do much better on one than the other. If you’re a rising senior, then it might be better to just focus on one test and make sure ALL the colleges you want to apply to accept the test you choose. The new SAT actually has a good amount of resources - I really liked Princeton Review’s 500 questions for the New SAT and Kaplan’s book is also pretty good. There’s also the official blue book, which is probably the most primary type source out there for the new SAT. If you want a good idea of how to tackle the new format, Khanacademy has a New SAT series that I found very helpful when making the switch. As for ACT, most people swear by The Real ACT Prep Book, which has all official practice questions. The Black Book is also very good, their strategies are really helpful to gain a different perspective on the ACT. After you’ve done the main books a good read through, I would suggest really putting focus on the subjects in the ACT or SAT that you score lowest in and really tackle those. I took both the ACT and SAT but honestly I don’t think colleges will really be too interested in looking at both, so one is just fine if you’re short on time. Good luck!
