Questions about protesting

I'm considering protesting at the RNC this year, but I have a couple questions. When people get arrested at protests, what is it normally classified as? Is it just disturbing the peace? Or is it bigger?

Also, what would be the penalties from colleges if I was arrested for said protest? Is it possible I could be kicked out or something?

Get a permit and you won’t (read: shouldn’t) have a problem.

And what if I don’t have a permit? The area that was granted to the RNC protests is too small to accommodate the expected number of people.

Then you’re breaking the law. I dunno what it would be considered as but it’s breaking the law. =[

And if it’s not a felony, I’m not completely sure that you would have to report that to a college and it’s easily explainable. How many protests do you see on College Campuses?

Yeah, I knew it would be breaking the law, I’m just wondering what it would be… felony, misdemeanor, etc.

Thinking about it, you would just be arrested, fined, and released. It wouldn’t go to court or anything of the sort. It may not even stay on your record. However, don’t take my word for that.

Okay, thanks. Does anyone else know anything more definitive - i.e., have you been in a similar situation? Also, knowing the size of the fine would be great… :)

What do you hope to accomplish by this protest? I mean, if you look at it from the point of view of someone who is pro-Republican, you would just seem like an angry, insensible person.

Yes, what exactly are you protesting? I consider myself a Democrat, but you still must have a reason. Unless you’re protesting that 'Poobs exist LOL.

Even if it did appear on your record, you get to explain what it is. I doubt admissions officers would turn you down for this kind of blemish on your “criminal record”.
