I think I may be interested in doing research while in college, but I have some questions.

I believe I want to try both research and an internship at some point, giving the opportunities. Does the order matter? I think I'd like to do research first.

How does one go about getting into research as an undergrad? Is it usually more difficult than being accepted as an intern somewhere or no?

Is there a typical time length for these research jobs or is it based on multiple variables?

Thanks.

Just do research during the semester and internships during the summer. That is what I did. It isn’t necessarily a one or the other kind of thing.

Research at many schools is a little bit easier than getting an internship if only because you don’t need to go apply at some company so you don’t have to jump through as many hoops. Generally, just ask a professor whose work interests you if he has any openings. It helps if you have taken a class with that professor so they have some kind of grade to know you by.

What do you mean by time length? As in how long you do it? Some people do it all 4 years they are in school. The longer it is, the better chance you will have of getting your name on a paper and a good recommendation letter for graduate school if you end up wanting to do that.
